He turned his attention to Dameon who stood by my side silent.

“Is this what you’ve brought us together for? To spit in our faces and take back the deal on the table?”

“No one is spitting in your faces. If we were, your face would be wet with saliva and not blood.”

Laughter simmered behind me from my capos.

“This is a disgrace and when others find out you’re not a man of your word, your alliances will fall.”

“Is that a threat?” Dameon asked.

“It is not a threat, but a promise.”

“That’s not going to happen,” I said. “Because the only ones who know about our deals are the people in this room. Now, tell me, Antonio, are you going to run and tell our allies that we changed the terms of our deal without your agreement? Or are you going to tell them things changed, and we all agreed cordially? Decide wisely.”

“You think you can bully us, but you’re mistaken. It only takes a few of these types of betrayals for everyone to see what type of operation you’re running. You’ll be the downfall of the Lucas Cosa Nostra.”

“And yet, you are here because you want our alliances and protection. I hardly think anyone would take your side. Why have you not avenged your father, Antonio?”

His eyes widened. “You son of a bitch!”

I guffawed. “You’re weak. And pathetic. The Lucas Cosa Nostra offered you protection without the need to tie families and you’re whining like a little bitch!”

“Because you want to marry into the Niccolòs! That’s his job!” He pointed to Dameon.

Before I could think, a snarl moved through me. Reflectively, I punched him again and this time he went down on one knee.

“Fuuuuuuck!” He covered his nose, and I sucked my teeth and glared at Riccardo.

“Thank you for keeping our deal,” Riccardo said.

“Your deal is off the table, too.”

His eyes widened. “You’re marrying my granddaughter.”

“And she will be the only one with our protection.” I pointed at him with the blade and he flinched. “The Niccolò Cartel will fend for themselves.”

“You son of a bitch!”

I tossed the blade and it stabbed him through the top of his chest.

“Aaaaaaah! Mother fucker!”

Davide, his consigliere, and their capos drew their weapons.

I sighed. “Not this again.”

I removed another blade I kept hidden and glanced back at a whining Antonio, still bent on the floor. “Don’t worry, I still have one for you,” I said, pointing the knife.

“How could you let him do this? He’s driving the empire you built into the ground!” Riccardo shouted at Dameon.

“He’s the next don, and he will assume that position in three weeks’ time.”

Gasps sounded throughout the room. “The decisions he makes now are his to make, and I stand with him.”

Riccardo shook his head with madness. “You will regret this!”

“You thought you could disrespect me all of my life and I would protect you when you grew old and weak?" I glared at Riccardo. “You’re an idiot.”
