“Nothing can ruin him,” I said, repeating what he’d told me when we’d first met. “Besides, no one’s going to know unless I tell them – right?”
“Absolutely – of course – without a doubt,” they all claimed.
“I’ll tell you one thing: you will have a beautiful baby. That man is fine, and you’re the belle of the ball.”
Warmth filled me, and I reached out and grabbed Emma’s hands.
“Don’t make me cry, okay?”
“It’s true,” Alice confirmed.
“I just hope to have a healthy baby and be a great mother. I don’t know what all that’ll take, but one can only hope.”
“You’ll do fine—just consider us your godmothers.”
My eyes widened. “Really?”
“Hell, yeah,” Alice exclaimed.
“Awwww, I love you.”
“We love you.”
Sofia gasped, “Hey!” she said as if on second thought. “What about graduation?”
They looked from her to me. “I’ll get to attend graduation since the year is almost over.”
“Hell, yeah!”
Alice lifted her hand, and we all high-fived.
“We’re so happy for you.”
They rounded the table and cuddled me with hugs.

Later that day
“That was not the agreement!” Antonio Cappalli shouted, his Italian coming out with a slew of maddened profanity.
“Lower your fucking voice, Cappalli,” I growled.
“Fuck you, Dominic!”
I punched him in his nose and blood squirted from his nostrils. Guns were drawn on his side and from the capos behind me.
I removed a blade that I kept hidden on me. “How fast do you think your capos can get off a shot before I open your throat with my blade, hmm?”
“Damn it, Lucas, calm the fuck down!” Riccardo shouted.
“I’m calm.” I kept my gaze on Antonio. He wasn’t ready for the position of don, even though it was his role, yet he stunk of fear. “I think I can drop you before they do.” I cracked my neck. “Let’s test that theory.”
The eyes of the capos shuffled left and right when Antonio raised his hand. “Lower your weapons.”
I smirked. “Oh, come on, Antonio. Let’s have some fun.”
