He nodded. “None of you will be harmed. The Lucas Cosa Nostra will reign supreme.”

A smile pushed at the corner of my lips. “This is how we’ll do it.”

The moon was nonexistent as we surrounded Niccolò’s compound. Darkness settled over the area, and my gut growled with the hunger for the blood of my enemies.

Giovanni Morocco exited the Niccolò compound, walked toward me, and paused.

“They are having dinner. Penelope and her mother are serving all of them. They are filled with pompous assurance, these three: Antonio, Riccardo, and Rolando.”

I quirked a brow. “Rolando?”

“Apparently, when he disappeared this morning, it had nothing to do with you being awake from your coma. He went to seal the deal on a treaty they have proposed with each other—and they’ve brought me into the mix.”

“They want you to be a close ally?”

“They have no idea that we are soon family nor that you are alive. They only know that Dameon is dead, and Rolando thinks you will be soon.”

A snarl moved through me, and I opened my hand, palm side up. Giovanni shook my hand.

“Thank you for your service.”

“No problem. Do you need anything else? I can order a few of my guys to stick around for backup should you need it.”

My gaze narrowed. “Not this time. We know where all the entrances and exits are. No one’s getting behind or ahead of us.” I winked at him. “Next time.”

He nodded, turned, and whistled, and he and his men left.

I lifted a phone to my lips and spoke to the capos stationed around the compound. “Kill everyone but Riccardo, Antonio, and Rolando. They’re mine. And don’t touch a hair on Penelope’s head—protect her and her mother at all costs.”

A momentary silence filled the night; then, the first round of gunshots permeated the air, followed by screams of terror.

I walked to a railing and climbed the ladder to the rooftop. Lifting my binoculars, I scoped out the area and spotted the helipad where a helicopter was stationed.

I whistled, and Bruno was at my side. I pointed and he squatted to one knee, then positioned a rocket launcher on his shoulder.

“Wait.” I held my hand out, and when the door to the roof burst open, I snapped, “Now!”

Riccardo ran towards the helicopter as the missile flew across the compound. The explosion sent him flying backward to the exit he’d run out of, and I walked across the roof as capos positioned themselves around me, but out of sight in different kill spots.

I approached and stood before him. His eyes rolled in his head—unfocused. Running out the exit behind him was Rolando. Shock crossed his face as he barreled into me, but fell back to the ground, arms flailing as he bounced off my solid frame on collision.

“You…” he stuttered in Italian. “You were dead. You were barely breathing.”

“And yet, here I am, fully rejuvenated and ready to spill the blood from your veins.”

He shook his head frantically. “It wasn’t my idea!” He pointed to Riccardo. “He threatened to kill my family—my mother!”

“Do you think I give a fuck, Rolando?”

I bared my teeth like a pit bull. Madness filled me as anger roared through my body, and I shifted with the darkness that rolled in me.

“I don’t give a fuck about you, your mother, your children, or any thought you may have in the next few seconds that you breathe. You were my father's most cherished ally. You betrayed him.”

“No! You don’t understand!”

Two of my capos came through the exit; one of them—Mano—was dragging Antonio Cappalli with him.
