“Where is Mano?” I roared.

“We were told not to move in to retrieve her.”

In Dameon’s office, I glowered at Mano. “Who told you?”

“Rolando. He’s been in charge since you and Dameon were down.”

“Where is Rolando now?” I snarled.

“I don’t know.”

“You don’t know?” I could feel my rage growing with each breath.

“Word spread quickly when you woke up this morning. He’s been missing since.”

A growl moved through me, and I glanced at Bruno. “He’s been missing since I woke up, Bruno.”

He knew what that meant—that I was right about my feelings on Rolando.

“He’s a traitor. If anyone spots him, bring him to me.”

“Yes, boss.” Mano turned to leave the room.

“Mano.” He paused and turned back. “We are at war. Gather the capos in the basement and wait for me.”

“Yes, boss.”

Bruno and I stared at each other.

“What’s the plan?”

“I need you.”

“How can I help?”

“As my consigliere.”

His eyes widened.

My eyebrow raised. “I don’t know why you’re stunned. You didn’t think I would keep Rolando, did you?”

“To be honest, I never considered what role I would play outside of the one I have as leader over the capos in Italy.”

“I know you’ve settled into that position, and I won’t take the overall operations you have there away, but I need you here.”

He nodded. “And you’ll have me.” He held out his hand, and I shook it.

“Most importantly… Penelope is pregnant with my heir.”

His eyes widened. “Congratulations, motherfucker!”

I smirked, and he shook my hand again.

“She’s with our enemy. And if I know this bastard, he is willing to kill her if it would kill me. We have to protect her at all costs.” Bruno nodded. “I need you to understand me, Bruno. At…all…costs…even at the cost of me. She and my heir are of greater importance.”
