“It’s a process. You know this.”

Andrew groaned. “I came all the way out here for a fucking hand job?”

John didn’t answer. Just leveled him with a hard glare.

“Fine. Still, I don’t know why you’re being so careful.” Andrew took her by the wrist and squirted something slick and wet into her hand. “Come here, honey. I know you’re a little out of it, but can you make a fist? That’s a good girl.”

She looked up at John. Did he really want her to do this? Right in front of him?

His eyebrows lifted as if to say, go ahead.

She blinked, trying to clear her head, but she couldn’t think straight.

“Kitten,” John said, his voice commanding. “Do it. Do it for me.”

Do it for John?

Even looking at Andrew with his pants pulled partially down, she felt so good. Her body was warm and tingly. He guided her hand where he wanted it and she did as she was told. She couldn’t think why she wouldn’t. John was watching. She felt good.

She could please him like this. It was just the one time. It would be fine.

CHAPTER 14

Zachary

The foreman’s voice boomed across the job site. Someone was getting their ass chewed out. Luckily, it wasn’t me. Even better, I was done for the day. He’d been on a rampage, yelling at just about everyone as if the delays were their fault. I was just glad I was getting out of there before he had a chance to lay into me about shit I couldn’t control.

I was also glad I was almost finished with this job. So far I’d flown under the radar, but it was me we were talking about. With a foreman like that, it was only a matter of time before we butted heads. Once I butted heads with someone, it tended to escalate. And that was the last thing I needed.

After packing up my tools, I headed out to my truck. The yelling had stopped and I wondered if anyone had gotten fired.

The foreman stalked out of the garage, his face still red from shouting. I hesitated, in no mood to deal with his temper, but I was on the wrong side of my truck to get in. Hopefully he’d turn around.

He didn’t, just stood there with his arms crossed while a car came down the long driveway. Not just any car, a black Audi. I wondered if it was the owner. Word on the job site was that he’d been in town, but I still hadn’t seen him.

The man who got out matched the car. His suit screamed money, and he glanced around with an arrogant, I’m better than everyone vibe. And there was no way to miss his look of mild irritation as he surveyed the front of the building.

Wait.

Holy shit.

Was that Preston?

I saw him with Marigold at the restaurant the other night, but not up close. I hadn’t gotten a good look at him, but that had to be the same guy.

“Mr. Bradford,” the foreman said.

“Are we back on schedule?” he asked.

“Not exactly. But most of the delays are supply chain issues. There’s only so much I can do.”

The Bradford guy narrowed his eyes, as if he didn’t like that answer. “How are you going to make up the time?”

“I’ve got a second crew coming to work on the east wing.”

“Which is going to cost me.”

“I can do it fast or I can do it cheap. I can’t do both. Do you want to see the progress on the main living areas?”
