“So what’s really going on?” Luke asked. “Or were you just bored? Thanks for the beer, by the way.”

“I’m not bored. This is serious. Marigold’s been going out with the guy I’m working for.”

“And this is a problem, because?” Theo asked.

“Because she should be with me.”

“Since when?” Luke asked with a laugh.

I rolled my eyes. Did I really have to go over this again? “I’m in love with her. I’ve been a dick to her for years because I’m stupid. But now I’m done being stupid and I tried to tell her how I feel but she already started seeing this rich guy, Preston Bradford.”

Luke and Theo glanced at each other.

“He took her out last night and I sort of made sure the date sucked,” I said. “But that’s not enough. I need to figure out how to get rid of him and also how to spend time with Marigold so she realizes she should be with me. Plus, I’m pretty sure he’s shady as fuck, I just don’t know why.”

“Shady, how?” Luke asked.

“I told you, I don’t know. It’s just a gut feeling.”

Luke leaned back in his chair. “So you want to sabotage his relationship with Marigold and swoop in as the hero.”

“Basically, yeah.”

”Childish with a high chance of failure,” Theo mused. “I’m in.”

“Same,” Luke said.

I grinned. I knew these guys would have my back. “I tried getting Annika and Audrey to help, but they have girl code best friend stuff getting in the way.”

“That’s fair,” Theo said.

“Yeah, it is what it is.”

“How did you ruin her date last night?” Luke asked.

“I cut the power to the restaurant she was in. Impatient bastard didn’t wait five minutes before leaving. It was too easy.”

Theo’s eyebrows drew in. “How did you know where they’d be?”

“I followed them.”

Luke laughed and Theo shook his head.

“So I guess we know stalking isn’t off the table,” Luke said.

“I wasn’t stalking her. I just followed her to a restaurant.” I paused. “Okay, that was basically stalking. But that’s the thing, I can’t follow her around all the time. She’s going to catch me at some point and it’ll just make her mad. I’ve already done enough shit to piss her off, I need to make her like me.”

“Yeah, ruining her dates is probably not going to win you any points,” Theo said.

“What if you do the opposite?” Luke asked. “Take her on better dates.”

“Isn’t this the guy who flew her to Seattle in a private helicopter?” Theo asked.

“How do you know about that?” I asked.

“Everybody knows.”

I rolled my eyes again. “Yes, that’s the guy. And he sends her flowers every day. Like every fucking day. What the hell?”
