She winked and walked away.

After tossing my phone on the bed, I headed toward the front door. Maybe it was just Abby, Emmy, or Amber coming to check on me.

But as soon as I reached the front door—still closed—and saw the hallway was empty, I looked at Sam. She gestured. “Open it.”

With that, she left me alone.

I wasn’t in the best mood for games, so I yanked the door open. On the other side, Nolan knelt on one knee with a high heel shoe in his hands.

My shoe.

The one I’d lost the night of the charity event.

He smiled at me, and all my anger and frustration and worry melted away.

“Nolan. You’re here.”

He didn’t get up, but held out the shoe some more. “I’ve come for the woman I love. She wears this shoe and lost it on the night I should’ve been there for her.” I tried to say it wasn’t his fault, but he pushed on before I could utter a word. “She makes me happy and completes me in a way I never thought I’d find. I love her teasing me about being a vampire or that I have a hidden sex dungeon. I love when she falls asleep in my arms under the stars, trusting me to take her home. I love how kind and funny and perceptive she is.” He smiled. “You’re my person, my place, my everything, Katherine Ruth Evans. I love you. Will you be my girlfriend, knowing everything that comes with it?”

I did my best not to cry. Although Nolan Wolfe kneeling on my front stoop, holding up my lost shoe and declaring his love for me was quite possibly the most romantic thing I’d ever seen in my life.

I took the shoe, placed it on the entryway table, and offered my hand. “I love you, too, Nolan Hank Wolfe. Now, get up and kiss me.”

With a grin, he rose, pulled me close, and pressed his lips to mine.

As I opened and his tongue twined with mine, I forgot all about the hell caused by his ex or the heartbreak at having to push him away.

He was warm and solid and safe. I loved him more than anyone in the world, and as he kissed me, I knew there would never be any other man for me. Nolan was it.

He was my happy ending.

Eventually, our kisses slowed, and he laid his forehead against mine. He murmured, “Come back to my place and let’s finish celebrating.”

I smiled. “Hmm, and what would this celebrating entail? More kissing?”

He brushed his lips against my cheek. “Definitely kissing. But not just your mouth. I want to kiss every inch of your body. While you wear a blindfold.”

Heat rushed between my thighs. “I might be open to it.”

He chuckled. “Your breathless reply tells me you’re more than open to it.” He nipped my earlobe. “I bet if I ran my fingers through your pussy, you’d be wet and swollen for me already. Wouldn’t you, baby?”

“Maybe.”

He nipped my ear. “Come with me. Let me fulfill one of your sex fantasies tonight.”

“It’s yours as well.”

After brushing hair off my face, he replied, “Which is why it’s perfect. So, what do you say, baby? Will you come stay the night with me?”

“Yes. A million times, yes. Let me just grab a few things.”

“I can help you.”

“If you ‘help’ me, we’ll never leave.”

Nolan winked, and my heart skipped a beat at how handsome he was. “We could start our celebrations here.”

“What, and have someone walk in on us? Um, no.” I kissed him. “I’ll be back in a few minutes.”
