Nolan took my hand, brought it to his lips, and then said, “I’ll be here for you. Always.”

My heart thudded again at the truth behind his words. “I’ll be right back.”

After one last kiss, I grabbed my shoe, rushed upstairs, and threw a few toiletries and clothes into a bag. I was just rushing back down the stairs again when Cassie and Sam blocked the bottom of the stairs. “Get out of the way. I’m in a hurry.”

Cassie smiled. “I bet. So you and Nolan are back together?”

“Yes. Now, move.”

Cassie laughed. “Only if you share the details later.”

Sam waggled her eyebrows, and I sighed. “Fine. Now, will you move?”

They each hugged me quickly and got out of the way. Sam said, “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do!”

Nolan waited in the entryway, his lips twitching. He said, “I hope her hard-no list is as small as yours.”

Sam’s voice boomed down the hallway. “Smaller!”

With a groan, I opened the front door and tugged Nolan. “Come on, before my parents investigate and things get embarrassing.”

He laughed as we headed toward his car. “I imagine your dad would just get up and leave without a word.”

“Probably, but I’d rather not find out.”

Nolan opened my door, and I smiled at his now-familiar gesture. After I slid into the car, he rushed to his side. Once seated, he leaned over and kissed me gently.

I sighed. “I’ll never tire of that.”

“Of what, me showing up with lost items and saying I love you despite your forgetfulness?”

I lightly smacked his arm. “Meanie.”

He grinned. “Hey, it could be a game. You lose things on purpose, I have to find them, and then you come up with creative ways to thank me and celebrate.”

I couldn’t hold back my laugh. “That’s almost tempting.”

“Well, we’ll talk about it. But not tonight.” His gaze smoldered. “All I want is you naked and at my mercy.”

I pressed my thighs together. “Then stop talking and start driving.”

Once Nolan was on the main road, he laid a hand on my thigh and squeezed. “Has your online harassment stopped?”

“I haven’t checked too deeply, but from what my sisters and the BFF Circle have shown me, everyone’s talking about Wendy and her betrayal.”

He nodded. “That’s what I’ve seen as well. Word is that Wendy’s going to leave the country for a short while and live incognito.”

“Do you think it’ll be a case of she goes away for a few months, the world forgets, and she comes back to an adoring audience again?”

He shook his head. “I don’t think so. Because if she does, I have a signed and recorded confession from Matt Bellis that will get her arrested. I told her about it, too.” He glanced at me and then back at the road. “She won’t be bothering us anymore, baby. We’re free. Well, as free as being with me can be, at any rate.”

Relief flooded through me. “Is it true? She won’t ever bother us again?”

“I can’t guarantee it 100 percent, but it’s very unlikely. I can’t imagine Wendy would enjoy going to jail.” He squeezed my leg again. “Our life is our own, Katie. Yes, I’ll still get some attention, especially with this last movie I’m working on. But with time, it should get easier. I’ll focus more on my production company and my charities, and while people will probably often still recognize me, we can always get creative and give them shows.”

“What, of the sex-related variety?”

He laughed. “No. But maybe we can show up at certain events in historical dress. Maybe I’m a Highlander and you’re my rival’s sister I stole to be my bride.”
