Just remembering her hot, wet pussy around my finger made my dick hard again. “Oh, I’ll definitely be tasting that perfect pussy of yours, Katie.”

She blinked, and I mentally cursed. Maybe she didn’t like any kind of crass or dirty talk.

Then she ran a hand up my chest and to the back of my neck. “And, well, I want to suck your cock sometime, too. If that’s okay.”

The image of her on her knees, taking my dick like a good girl, made me even harder. “Fuck, Katie. It’s more than okay.”

She smiled shyly and then backed away. I reluctantly let her go.

For a few beats, we stared at each other. The cool air made her cheeks bright pink, her eyes bright, and her dark blue coat hugged her every curve. Ones I wanted to caress with my hands and memorize with my tongue.

It was going to be a long few days until Katie came to L.A.

Which reminded me of something. “We’ll do all of that, I promise, once you come to L.A. However, I still need to give you my Christmas present. But I can’t do that until you join me down there. I know it’ll be late, but I promise it’ll be worth it.”

“Nolan, you didn’t have to get me a gift.”

“I do. There will be more than one, actually. Because the first is something you’ll truly want, and the second is something to show off to the world.”

“Oh, of course. I didn’t think of a gift for you to show off and make our story more convincing.”

She bit her bottom lip, and I took a step toward her. “Don’t worry, we can think of a public-facing gift from you later. But you do have a personal one for me?”

She smiled. “Still like getting gifts, do you?”

Not from everyone, but I really wanted to see what Katie had picked out. “Of course. Even if it seems like I have everything, it’s the presents that come from the heart that I treasure the most.”

After unzipping her coat, she took a rectangular present from an inner pocket and held it out. “Merry Christmas, Nolan.”

I took it. It was the right shape and weight for a book. After unwrapping it, I stared at the title.

Katie asked, “Er, do you like it? If not, I can find something else. But it’s just I remember you reading those books when I was little, and Abby told me which was your favorite, and…”

I closed the distance between us and kissed her. “I fucking love it, baby. Thank you.”

She’d gotten me one of those Choose Your Own Adventure books I’d loved as a boy. My favorite, in fact—the one about the yeti.

She smiled at me. “You’re welcome. And can’t you give me a hint about mine? I mean, that’s only fair.”

I booped her nose. “Only that you’ll love it. And the wait will be worth it. It’s all set up for the night you arrive in L.A. So don’t make any plans.”

“Hmm, yes, let me see if I can fit you into my extremely busy schedule,” she drawled.

I laughed. “Trust me, once word gets out that you’re in town, you’ll be getting all kinds of invitations.” I paused, studied her expression, and asked, “Will you be okay accepting some of them? It would probably be weird if you ignored some of my recent co-stars or actor acquaintances.”

She lightly patted my chest. “I’ll be fine and look forward to meeting some of them. I’m pretty good with strangers, for the most part.”

I hoped she was right. Because while I knew she’d had a lot of experience giving tours at the dairy, the crowd in L.A. was a whole different story.

Still, she took my hand, and we walked and talked about Christmas presents from our pasts. Any worries or doubts faded away as I enjoyed the calm before the storm.

Because here in Starry Hills, I could be merely Nolan Wolfe. But once I was back in Los Angeles, with my new fiancée in tow, the entire world would be watching us and privacy would pretty much be out the window.
