Abby: Let me guess? I’ll have to watch them while you and West go have sex in a bathroom or in a hidden corner of the park?

Emmy: Not everything is about sex.

Abby: Says the woman who constantly has to stop herself from gushing to me about what you did WITH MY BROTHER.

Me: Call me anytime, Emmy. I want the details.

Emmy: Only if you give me the same about Nolan. Something tells me the quiet brother will surprise us all.

Abby: No, no, JUST NO. Don’t tell me. I don’t want to know.

Amber:

Me: We’ll talk later. I need to do some more shopping today. I promise to send pics of my dress on New Year’s.

Abby, Emmy, and Amber:

Istill couldn’t believe I’d fallen asleep on the beach after dinner. Something about sitting with Nolan, his arms wrapped around me, had felt warm and safe and comfortable.

And I didn’t even wake up as he carried me back to the house and tucked me into bed.

He’d been gone by morning, though. His flight had been early, and I’d been more exhausted than I’d thought.

And now? I had to go shopping for hours and hours, getting everything else I needed for New Year’s and a few events beyond.

I reached the bottom of the stairs and waved to Jenn. She returned the gesture and said, “Come on. If we stick to my schedule, you’ll have tomorrow off to do whatever you want.”

“Nolan won’t be back until dinnertime tomorrow, though, right?”

“Yes. But tomorrow, we can go anywhere in the city, your choice. Living here, I sometimes take things for granted. It’ll be nice to see it through the eyes of a tourist again.”

A tourist. Yes, that was exactly what I was.

Then why did the term not sit right with me?

Because you want more of last night, more of quiet moments and cuddles and good food on the beach. And then maybe you could go looking for hidden gems together, whenever Nolan can get away from his job.

Jenn’s voice brought me back to the present. “Hmm, I wonder why you have that dreamy-eyed look?”

I blinked. “What are you talking about?”

Rolling her eyes, she said, “The two of you are impossible, I swear.”

“I don’t follow.”

“You’ll figure it out soon enough. Now, we need to leave or my schedule will go to shit. First up: bra and panty shopping.”

“Um, no one will see my underthings at the party, so why do I need new ones?”

“You really need to stop worrying about how much things cost. Besides, I’m sure someone will see you in them, and I want him to drool.”

She waggled her eyebrows, and I smiled. I’d always wanted to have sexy lingerie to show off to my guy.

No, not my guy. Nolan wasn’t mine. Not really.

Jenn added, “Besides, I got word this morning that Wendy will be at the same party. And the more armor you have, the better.”

“So, what are you saying? That a thong will make me feel like a goddess?”
