“I know, baby. But trust me—it’ll be worth it. We have a pit stop to make before we go to our accommodations.”
That piqued my curiosity, and I sat up to stretch. “What kind of pit stop? Wait, scratch that. Start by telling me where we are.”
He opened the window shade. “See if you can guess.”
Leaning over, I looked outside. It was an airport—much bigger than the county one back home—and there were big and small planes everywhere. I also noticed all the signs and company names written in Spanish—even my high school Spanish self could tell that. I also spotted a familiar flag. “Mexico?”
“Yep, we’re in Mexico. Cancun International Airport, to be precise. But no, we’re not heading to Cancun. That’s the opposite of where I plan to take you.”
“Mexico.” I sat back in my seat. “It’s my first passport stamp, you know.”
He smiled. “The first of many, I’m sure.”
I wiggled in my seat. “When can we get off so I can get my stamp?”
He laughed. “Soon, baby. I promise. I’ll even let you go first, so you don’t have to wait another minute.”
It took far too long to disembark and go through customs. But when the worker finally stamped in my passport for the first time, my chest tightened. I’d waited so long, and after twenty-six years, I was finally getting to travel outside the US.
Nolan frowned as he watched me, but went through his interview and waited until we were walking away to claim our luggage. He wrapped an arm around my shoulders. “Are you okay, baby?”
“Yes.” I sniffled. “It’s just…such a big thing. Something I’ve dreamed about doing for so long, you know? And it’s finally come true.”
He kissed the top of my head. “Is it everything you thought it’d be?”
“Yes and no. I mean, I’ll be staring at that stamp for a long, long time. But I’m eager to see more than the airport. After all, it doesn’t count until you set foot outside of it.”
“Well, lucky for you, I have a car waiting. The first surprise will take less than twenty minutes to get to. The drive to where we’re staying will be an hour and a half after that, but it should be worth it.”
“Okay, now I really want to know where we’re going.”
“Nope, I’m not telling you. It’s a surprise. I’m even going to blindfold you when we get close and guide you out. That way, I can watch your face when you see it.”
“Part of me loves that you’ve planned this all out. And the other part is annoyed because I want to know everything right now.”
His eyes twinkled with mischief. “I plan to surprise you a lot, so you’d better learn to be a little more patient.”
“Or, imagine this—you could just tell me upfront and I could plan which thing is better and should be done first.”
“Then I’d have no say in it. And that’s the fun of surprises—catching people off guard.”
“Hmm. I guess that means I’ll have to tease you even more than you do me, when it comes to surprises. Mine won’t be as grand as an impromptu trip, but I’ll come up with a few things.”
He stopped to kiss me. “As long as it’s from you, any present will be the best one of my life.”
“Nolan.”
He smiled. “It’s true, baby. Because each surprise will also reveal a little bit more about you, which will not only help you figure yourself out, but it’ll also make me happy. Because I want to know every little thing about you.”
As I stared at him, it was hard to believe that only a little over two months ago, Nolan had proposed a fake engagement to me. Out of the blue, at a children’s birthday party, no less.
And now? It was starting to feel more and more like we were a couple. And not just because of the sex, although that was definitely a perk.
Nolan Wolfe, sex demon. Who would’ve known that under his quiet exterior was so much more?
But it was more than that. He listened and teased and encouraged me when I needed it. Hell, he’d brought me to Mexico and made one of my dreams—to travel outside the US—come true.
Yes, I still had to sort out my feelings about the paparazzi and fans and all that came with dating a famous actor. But for now, I just wanted to spend time with my boyfriend.
