Vaughn watches me as I climb out and stand by the car.

Another car approaches the mansion and comes to a stop behind me.

The two beta women who led me out of my house climb out and meekly wait for their master’s command. Vaughn barely glances at them as he moves toward me.

His arm snakes around my waist, pulling me against him. “Come with me,” he says, injecting heavy dominance in his voice.

I’m forced to keep pace with him and climb the low, sweeping staircase that leads to the mansion. He pushes the tall doors open and guides me inside a luxurious entrance hall.

“Do you like my home, Aurora?” he suddenly croons in my ear.

The rush of his hot breath tickles me, making me feel even more uncomfortable.

“You seem to be living a good life,” I say, staring at the ornate display of bronze vases that are as tall as me. “Why do you still need to associate with scum like the Black Widow?”

“Alphas crave power over others,” he says, pinching my waist. “Money takes us far in this world but without power, we’re simply ordinary.”

“Your power is tainted,” I tell him. “Don’t you feel any guilt over the innocent lives you’ve destroyed?”

“You must understand that not every life has the same value,” he says in a cold tone. “Some are simply born to serve the powerful.”

Hatred courses through me. How can anyone be so inhuman?

I think of the horrible conditions in which I’d lived with the other captive omegas. They snatched our humanity without hesitation and used and abused us like cattle.

Even now, those innocent women are suffering the aftermath of the trauma they went through. Millie and the others are still trying to find their humanity despite being rescued from those horrible underground cages.

“Get your hands off me!” I snap, pushing him away. “You’ve already got me here. I’m not going to run away.”

“How dare you act so rudely with Master?” a female voice screams from the corner.

Turning in that direction, I find the two beta women. They both followed us inside the mansion and were standing in the corner, looking angry and ready to strike me.

Vaughn raises a hand, silencing them while they seethe. “I’m going to take Aurora to her room. In the meantime, prepare my dinner.”

“Yes, Master,” the two women chorus while glaring at me sullenly. Balling their hands at their sides, they stomp out of the room.

Turning his attention to me, Vaughn grins. His sun-tanned skin wrinkles around the corners of his eyes as he steps closer and grabs my wrist.

“Come, omega,” he says, jerking on my arm. “Let me show you to your room.”

He tugs my arm hard even though I’m willingly following him further inside the mansion. His only intention is to hurt me while acting like a gentleman.

I can’t stop thinking of Seth, Oliver, and Simon as we ascend a tall staircase. They’ve been so gentle with me over the past couple of months that Vaughn’s behavior is like a whiplash.

I swallow the pain and anguish, willing myself to stay strong in the face of Vaughn’s cruelty. He’s relentless in his roughness as his fingers grip my wrist with bruising force.

He proceeds down a corridor when we reach the second-floor landing. Opening a door, he pushes me with such force that I stumble uncontrollably before sprawling on the floor.

The long skirt of my dress tangles around my legs, making it difficult to get to my feet.

I look around the dimly lit, barely furnished room. A single bedside lamp illuminates the space. Shadows cling to every corner, adding to the suffocating atmosphere. Is this going to be my new prison?

Vaughn towers over me, gazing down at me with a cruel stare. Reaching down, he grabs me by my hair and forces me to my feet.

My scalp tingles painfully but I don’t utter a noise. He wants me to cower before him but I won’t give him the satisfaction.

“Tell me where they are,” he says, bringing his face close to mine. The smell of whiskey assaults my senses as he breathes hard on me.
