“Get a truck to wait outside Mr. Diaz’s house,” Rory instructs. “Your guy will be able to carry Jake through Mrs. Hall’s backyard and enter into Diaz’s property. The Black Widow spies won’t get any visuals on them if they follow this route.”

“Have I told you how amazing you are?” I say, feeling a surge of pride washing over me.

She chuckles. “I’m not being smart. It’s just that I’ve lived in this neighborhood long enough to know the people and the properties around me.”

“You’re naturally observant of your surroundings,” I tell her. “It’s a trait not everyone possesses.”

“I never thought I could impress you with this,” she says with a light laugh. “Oh, there’s something else we need to discuss. We have to save the girl who’s still tied up inside Jake’s bedroom.”

“I’m sending Cassidy to you,” I say, silently gesturing at one of my team members. The young man nods and straightens his spine. “You recognize him, don’t you?”

“Yeah, I do.”

“Great. Allow him to get Jake out of the house, first. We can take care of the young omega after we’ve finished this part of the operation.”

“All right, then. Send Cassidy over quickly. Jake doesn’t look too good right now.” Focusing my gaze on the laptop screen, I see that he’s barely moving anymore.

Turning toward one of my most trusted men, I gesture at him to come forward. “Do you understand what you have to do?” I ask.

Straightening his back, Cassidy salutes me. “Yes, Captain!”

I glance toward another soldier. “Cole, take one of the cars and wait outside the Diaz property.”

“Yes, Captain!” the young beta shouts, saluting me.

“Keep your masks on,” Oliver adds from beside me. “It’s best to stay incognito while you’re on the move.”

“Yes, Captain,” the two soldiers chorus in grim tones.

They march out of the room and close the door behind them. I move toward Julian who’s sitting in the corner with a laptop open on the desk before him.

“How’s everything going?” I ask him.

“Better than I could’ve imagined,” he says with a satisfied look on his face. “The downloads are happening without a hitch. When I saw Jake return home, I thought the operation would fail. Somehow, Rory turned everything around. With Jake out of the way, the downloads will be complete without any interruption.”

“How much longer would it take to download everything?” Simon asks, leaning on Julian’s shoulder.

“About four more hours,” says Julian.

“Let’s just hope the Black Widow’s spies don’t suspect anything until we’re done,” Oliver says, looking thoughtful.

“They’ll assume Jake’s handling Rory,” Julian says with a sarcastic grin. “They’re so idiotic, they would never even consider the possibility of an omega hurting an alpha.”

“Their delusions will bring them to their deaths,” Simon says with a hateful look on his face.

“I wish we had put cameras on our guys too,” Oliver says, staring at the laptop screen that shows feeds from the one on Rory’s shirt. “We could’ve gotten a look at Rory and made sure she’s okay.”

“Jake roughed her up,” says Simon, his blue eyes darkening with anger. “Of course, she’s not okay.”

A tinge of anxiety spreads through me. Even though I’m impressed by the way Rory handled the situation today, I’m still not at ease with her being in enemy territory. I’ll feel good only when she’s back home and in my arms.

My brothers and I shift our focus back to the laptop. It’s only a couple of minutes before the visuals change.

Rory doesn’t contact us but we see her walking into the kitchen and opening the door that leads into the backyard of Jake’s house.

Soon, Cassidy comes into our view.

“Hello, Ma’am,” he says with a respectful dip of his head. “I’m here to complete the mission.”
