“It is a beautiful store.” I walked into the next room, leaving Randy and Lara to chat.

A twelve-person dining table with an elaborate setting of silver serving pieces and French linens took up most of the room. Framed artworks vied for space on the navy-blue walls, but what made my breath catch was the massive three-tiered wood and iron chandelier hanging in the middle of the room. It was the perfect focal point for the dancehall.

I rushed back to the first room and stopped in front of Randy. “I want the cattle brands chandelier.”

“What?” He looked stricken.

I took his skinny arm and dragged him under the massive fixture. Standing directly beneath the light, I could see all the branding irons hanging down. Each one differed from the next.

I pointed up. “That.”

“Shit, are you sure?” He looked to Lara, hoping she would change my mind.

“It’s for the new tasting room at Blue Star Ranch.”

“It’s really expensive.” He chewed his fingernail and looked anywhere but at me.

“Okay. How much?”

“Umm, a lot.” He winced.

“I don’t care. It’s for sale. I want it.” I had to resist the urge to stomp my foot.

“This is totally like that scene inPretty Womanwhen Vivian goes shopping in the snotty boutique,” Lara chuckled, watching me and Randy go back and forth.

“How much, Randy?” I tipped my head back and looked at the chandelier, searching for a price tag. Standing in my way was a mistake, a big mistake—huge!

“Thousands?”

“You think, or you know?”

“Fine. I’ll call my mom.” Randy rolled his eyes and tromped out.

“If he’s not back in five minutes, I’m going to find him.”

“Nah, he’ll call his mom. She’s paying for his sixth or seventh year of undergrad at UT next year. Randy would rather deal with a customer than real life.”

“It’s perfect, isn’t it?”

“Randy’s life or your giant light?”

I lightly punched her in the arm. “My chandelier, of course.”

“It’s very cool. I’ve always wondered if it would sell. It’s been hanging here for like ten years.”

“It was waiting for me.”

“Here, she wants to talk to you.” Randy held out his phone to me.

“Hello?”

“Hello, this is Pricilla Lamar. I understand you’d like to buy my chandelier.”

Pricilla’s cultured voice hid a cutthroat negotiator. And after a tense ten-minute back and forth, we settled on a price. I gave Randy his phone along with a Blue Star credit card to cover the cost.

“It’s ours.” Triumph glowed out of my every pore, making me giddy. My first purchase for the dancehall and it was one of a kind.

“Outstanding. Now what?” Lara looked up at the huge light.
