“And?” I carded my hands into his hair, losing my fingers in the silkiness there.

“Dark chocolate for the middle layer, not chili though for a wedding. So, maybe a hint of espresso, cream obviously, and then, a thin layer of chocolate crunch, perhaps a praline or a light feuilletine.”

I didn’t know what feuilletine was, but I bet it would be wonderful. He kissed the tip of my nose.

“What about the surprise layer?”

Noah chuckled. “That’s where I could get creative and add a personal touch. It depends when we’re getting married. Maybe a spiced pumpkin cake for a wedding this fall, or a strawberry and basil combination for next summer?”

“I’m thinking this fall,”

“Really?” He tilted his head.

“Yeah, changing leaves, cool evenings, bonfires.” I cradled his face, tugged him close enough that we were almost kissing, and then, “Will you marry me in the fall, Noah Bennett?”

I could feel his smile against my lips, then he kissed me gently.

“Spiced pumpkin cake it is, then,” he whispered.

“Wait. Is that a yes? Are you saying you’ll marry me?”

We separated for a moment, and I found myself lost in his mesmerizing blue eyes.

“Yes.”

And the spring rain quickened against the window.
