He leaned in more, and now she was leaning in too, involuntarily taking him up on his challenge. Straining toward him as if her body had a will of its own. Her heart thudded as her breath hitched painfully, and her gaze dropped to his slightly parted lips.

She needed the cat to jump between them and break the spell again, but Murderface was nowhere to be seen. Typical cat. Never around when you needed him.

She should say something to avert this. Put a stop to it before—

Oh.

Dylan’s lips brushed against hers. Both smooth and rough. Soft and firm.

Just a light touch, and then they were gone. Just enough to tantalize.

Just enough to drive her mad.

Brooke sucked in a ragged breath and Dylan’s mouth met hers again. Her eyes drifted shut. Her lips parted as she felt his hands encircle her waist.

They were kissing with gusto now. Slow, luxurious, tender caresses that were every bit as wonderful as she’d imagined and then some. His tongue sweeping over hers, his teeth scraping against her lower lip. Her limbs melting into goo.

Then it ended.

Dylan pulled back, and Brooke’s eyes flew open in shock. He was watching her again. Studying her reaction. His eyes still clear and intense as they scrutinized her.

“Why—why did you do that?” she gasped, her lungs aching like she’d been deprived of oxygen.

He gazed down at her calmly, as if he hadn’t just blown up their whole paradigm. “I’ve been wanting to do that since I got here.”

Her stomach flipped over. “You have?”

“I sort of thought it was obvious after last night.”

“Well, okay, but—” Brooke shook her head, trying to refocus her thoughts. “I can’t talk about this now—I have to go. I have to get to class.”

Why did he have to choose to do thisnow? When she was already running late?

Dylan reached behind her to open the door. “I know. Go to class.” His hands grasped her shoulders and he spun her around, giving her a gentle push out the door. “Have a good day. I’ll see you tonight.”

While Brooke was still trying to process exactly what had just happened, the door shut behind her.

Okay.

What?

Chapter Ten

“Can women get blue balls?” Brooke asked when she met Olivia for coffee that afternoon.

Olivia dropped her giant bag into an empty chair and slumped into the seat across from Brooke. “Men don’t even get blue balls. It’s a myth meant to guilt women into having sex with them.”

Brooke cradled her venti Frappuccino in her hands. “Not literal blue balls, but like…extreme sexual frustration. Where you feel like you’re going to explode if you don’t get some. Women should have a word for that too.” She sucked down a mouthful of frozen sugary caffeine as she thought about it. “Blue eggs? Blue clams? Blue tacos? Why are so many euphemisms for female body parts food-based?”

Olivia’s eyebrows lifted over heavily lined eyes as her red lips puckered in amusement. “Am I correct in assuming your houseguest is the one causing your blue lady parts?”

“Maybe,” Brooke said glumly.

Olivia regarded her with narrowed eyes. “Something happened. Spill.”

“No.” Brooke lowered her eyes and sipped her Frappuccino again. “Nothing.”

She wasn’t sure she wanted Olivia to know the details. For one thing, as soon as Olivia knew, Penny would know, and Olivia’s boyfriend Adam would know, and Penny’s husband Caleb would know. Since Brooke was supposed to be bringing Dylan to the reception this weekend, she didn’t want any of them acting weird around him and letting on that they knew.
