Bad.

Olivia was right that Brooke had basically always wanted him, even if she’d tried to shut down those feelings and shove them deep inside.

They weren’t shut down anymore.

If Dylan was on board for something casual like that, it could be a win-win scenario.

Just thinking about it made Brooke’s limbs quiver.Imagine. Having Dylan for herself for the rest of his stay. Four days. Fournights. After all these years, finally getting to satisfy her repressed desires.

How amazing would that be?

But as much as she longed to give in to her pent-up desire, she still wasn’t certain it was the right thing to do.

Brooke stoodoutside the door of her apartment. She bit her lip, squeezing the key in her hand.

Dylan was inside. When she opened the door, she’d have to face him. Talk to him. Tell himsomething.

She still didn’t know what she was going to say.

Maybe she shouldn’t say anything. Maybe she should make him say something. Explain himself. He was the one who’d kissed her, after all. Didn’t that demand some kind of explanation? An accounting of his actions? A clarification of intentions at the very least?

This was ridiculous. It was her apartment. She couldn’t stand outside forever.

Brooke reached out to put the key in the lock, but the door swung open before she had the chance.

“Were you ever planning on coming in?” Dylan asked, smirking at her.

Why did he have to look so good in a T-shirt and jeans? The man was just acres of radiant skin and solid musculature. Not to mention his face, which was somehow even hotter when he was acting cocky and taunting her.

And he was definitely taunting her. She could tell by the glint in his eyes. He knew he’d thrown her for a loop this morning, and he was enjoying watching her flounder.

“Yes,” she muttered, stepping past him and into the apartment. Her arm brushed against his chest and sent a shower of electroshocks through her body.

He shut the door behind her. “How was your day?”

Weird. Confusing. Disorienting. Complicated.

“It was fine.” She pulled her laptop bag over her head and hung it on the hook by the door. “I finished my paper and submitted it.”

“That’s awesome! Well done!”

“How was your day?” It felt strange to be making small talk only a few feet away from where he’d kissed her this morning.

Was he planning to pretend it hadn’t happened, like they had after their last kiss? Because that really, reallywas not going to work for her this time.

Dylan went into the kitchen. “We should celebrate. You want a beer or some wine?” She heard him open the fridge.

“Maybe in a little bit.” She needed to keep a clear head until they’d hashed things out. “I thought maybe we should talk about…you know.”

When he reappeared from the kitchen the teasing glint was back in his eyes. “The Green New Deal? The controversial final season ofGame of Thrones? Whether Lizzo is, in fact, good as hell? You’re going to have to narrow it down for me.” It was infuriating how sexy he was when he smirked.

“This morning,” Brooke said, struggling to suppress a smile. “I believe there was kissing.”

His smirk got wider and sexier. “Youbelievethere was kissing? I must not be doing it right.”

She cleared her throat. “No, you did it very well. Outstanding, even.”

“Well, that’s a relief.” The way he was looking at her made her feel weak-kneed and woozy. And hestillwasn’t actually talking about it, despite all the jokes.
