"I'm pretty stubborn, and independent as they come. Either way, thank you for already doing what you've done. We could feel a difference this afternoon." She reaches over, grabbing the hand I have on the console.

"You're welcome, I'm glad I could help. This may be a long date we're about to have. We gotta go to the hardware store."

"It's cool. I'm excited to do this with you, even if it's going to take a while. I've never seen you work before, so I'm going to have a good time watching."

I chuckle. "We back to your fantasies again?"

"Untapped, but definitely there. We'll see how it goes. I've never been to the hardware store for anything. New experiences might open my eyes to things I never thought would be turn ons."

I'm looking forward to finding out what turns her crank, so to speak. Especially since I had a taste of her. "Hopefully we can find out new things about each other tonight."

"Me too."

The tension is thick in the cab of the truck. I wish we didn't have places to be, I'd pull over and have my way with her. Wouldn't be the smartest move I've ever made, but it would be a damn good time. Fifteen minutes later, we pull up to Broken Falls Hardware. "Stay put," I tell her, after I shut the truck off and open the door to step out. Walking around the front, I go over to the passenger, and open it for her.

"Nobody has ever opened my door for me. Is this how women are supposed to be treated?" She jokes.

I entwine our fingers together as we head to the entrance of the store. "It's never how I treated anyone before, but it's how I want to treat you."

"Thank you." She rests her head on my arm for a few seconds. "Are we going to be here long? Thank God this isn’t the same store that Alexis worked at.”

He chuckles. “The only reason Dad went there is because Alexis was there, but nah, I know exactly what I need, and they'll be closing in about fifteen minutes. Colt would stay for me. No matter how long it is, he'd allow me extra time, and I would hate to have him be late for dinner with his family. We'll be in and out."

"That's nice of you. Some would use whoever they know to their advantage, and not worry about what they had going on. I've had people show up at the truck when I'm going to close in ten minutes and order more food than we can cook in thirty. I used to make it, no matter how long it would take, especially when I was brand new. I didn't want to get a bad reputation, so I went out of my way to do things like that. I don't anymore, and I'm not sorry about it."

We enter, and Colt is standing at the counter. "Hey Abel, haven't seen you in a while. How's your dad doing?"

"Yeah, I haven't needed anything recently, but I have a special project to work on tonight. He's doing good. Spending all his time with Alexis."

Colt laughs. "They came in here together last time he was in. She was not impressed."

Kara snorts. "I bet she wasn't."

"This is her best friend, Kara." I introduce them. "I'm getting some insulation products. She owns Let's Taco Bout It."

"No fuckin' way. I love your quesadillas and I always find myself watching your live feeds when it's not busy. I can't believe I didn't recognize you."

"I hardly ever have the camera on my face. I'd rather people know the product, and not necessarily the person behind it. Ya know? Back when I first started, I showed my face a lot, but then I was recognized, and it felt weird. That kind of notoriety isn't something I enjoy."

I'm learning new things about her as she's talking to Colt. These are questions I should've thought to ask her. When they reach a natural lull, I get his attention. "I ordered some skirting. Did Tally get it cut for me?"

"Yeah, I've got it bundled up if you wanna pull around back."

"Perfect, I have a few other things to get."

They're still talking, so I leave her up there with him. I'll never understand men who are threatened by the success of the women they're with. I'm proud of Kara, and can't wait to fix her truck to make this easier on her. When I get everything I need, I head back up.

They're laughing, and Kara is wiping the bottom of her eyes. "And that's how I learned very early on in my career, you do not leave the seeds to peppers in, unless you want to set your mouth and ass on fire."

I raise my hand. "Been there, done that."

She clears her throat. "I think we all have. It just feels worse when you're the person who's made the food for others, and they're dying while you're trying not to melt in embarrassment."

Colt nods to what I have in my hands. "This all ya need?"

"Yup. Don't forget the skirting too."

He rattles off the price, a little over two hundred dollars. Kara reaches into her purse, but I beat her by offering him my business card. She doesn't say anything, but she aggressively pulls her bottom lip between her teeth.
