“Do you have another suggestion?” He arched an eyebrow, daring me to blame him again—except I couldn’t.
“No.” My entire body deflated. Caius sat up and his blanket fell to his waist. I stiffened at our close proximity when all of him was on display. No one, god or otherwise, should have abs like that, or lines of muscle, or a face that looked as though it were carved into stone then worshiped.
But he did.
Stupid god had it all, and the way he was looking at me in return did not go unnoticed.
“Perhaps you missed me.”
“Unlikely,” I said, trying to wet my dry lips with my tongue. “Maybe I wanted to smother you in your sleep.”
He chuckled, the sound husky and sexy, and gods helped me, I liked it.
“Could be that’s why you’re wrapped around me. If your idea of smothering involves my head between those lush thighs ...” He trailed as my breath caught. His fingertips ghosted down the back of my thigh, to wrap around the underside of my knee. “Let’s just say I’d happily let you do so.”
“You can’t say things like that to me,” I protested weakly.
“Oh? Why is that?”
“Because we’re not ...” I didn’t want to say it. It wasn’t an argument I wanted to have. I liked whatever flirting we were doing. It was fun and didn’t have strings attached to it. Saying anything in the realm of mates would ruin the moment. Maybe I needed to ruin the moment.
My face heated as he pulled me onto his lap. We sat chest-to-chest. His lips brushed against mine, a gentle caress and rational thought fled me.
“We don’t have to be mates if that’s what you were going to say. We’re both adults. We can do whatever we want.” Heat pooled in my core. With his lips on mine, he had a really good point. “I know the difference here, and I don’t have any expectations.”
Caius pulled back a fraction, giving me a choice. When I didn’t move or speak, he loosened his hold on me, respecting the decision he thought I’d made.
This time it was me that kissed him fully. Hungrily. I nipped at his bottom lip, sucking it into my mouth. My hands curled around his bare shoulders. Caius snapped, and we crashed together like waves.
Strong, calloused fingers gripped my hips. He pulled me flush against him, guiding my hot center over his length.
The friction wasn’t enough, but still I chased that feeling, rocking my hips against his.
When the lack of oxygen made my head spin, I tipped my head back, breaking the kiss. Caius took the opportunity to trail his lips down my throat. I groaned, pressing harder against him. He rubbed a hand down my backside, grabbing a handful to better grind against me in return.
“I love your ass,” he mumbled.
I chuckled, and it morphed into a sharp gasp as he teased the flesh where my neck met my shoulder, sucking hard.
I whimpered, whispering his name.
“And these sweet noises,” he hummed, licking the tender skin.
Without thinking about any potential consequences, I let him twist me around, gently guiding me so that I still straddled him but instead my back was to his chest. Caius hands settled back at my hips, fingers dipping into the hem of my shorts. I rocked back against him, eliciting a sharp hiss.
His knees came up, spreading my thighs further, to the point it was obscene. My nails pricked his bicep where I clutched his arm. My other one wrapped around the back of his neck as I leaned into him, letting him take my weight.
Caius slid his hand down the front of my shorts. Blunt fingers brushed against the most sensitive parts of me.
His breathing was ragged in my ear, and the quiet rumble of his satisfied hum sent goosebumps skittering across my skin.
Caius ran a single fingertip across my wet entrance, up to my clit where he circled it slowly. My body went taut, and my legs quivered in anticipation.
“Caius,” I breathed his name again, knowing how he liked hearing it on my lips.
He growled against my neck, nibbling on the skin there.
“I need .. .” I whispered, rocking back, trying to rub against him.
