I wanted this obsession I have with her, this madness, this insanity, to stop.

Well, I also fucked her because I was jealous.

I was so jealous when I overheard her going on a date that I wanted to commit murder.

I wanted to strangle that fucker with my bare hands.

Since that’s a felony, I settled on crashing her date, threatening her job — which I’m sure is illegal too — taking her to that cabin under false pretenses and taking her virginity.

Because instead of being a murdering asshole, I’m the kind of asshole who has sex with his three-year-old daughter’s nanny. Hervirginnanny, let’s not forget that.

I’m still battling with the guilt from that night and a number of other things when I hear a fourth voice join in.

“What are you guys talking about?”

I don’t have to look up to know who it belongs to. The inherent authority in it, along with the fact that I’ve been listening to it for close to a year now, alerts me that it’s the coach.

Conrad Thorne.

We all straighten up at his appearance, including Reed — who hasn’t been Coach Thorne’s player in years; before coaching a pro-soccer team, Coach Thorne used to be Ledger and Reed’s high school coach — and Reign, even though Reign was never his player.

“Riot’s got girl troubles,” Ledger shares.

“Coach, that’s not —”

“Is that why you’ve been playing like shit these past couple of weeks?” Coach asks.

Fuck.

“I’m not –"

“And you’re taking advice from these three,” he states, sort of disapprovingly, his stern eyes settling on each of them.

“Well, Coach, we do have girlfriends,” Reign reminds him.

“A wife,” Reed corrects.

“Me too,” Ledger jumps in too.

Coach begins with Reign. “Frankly, I’m amazed at how you could possibly have a girlfriend, Davidson, after the stunt you pulled with her parents last summer. But I don’t think it’s because of your impeccable judgement and relationship skills, is it?”

At which, Reign actually blushes and looks away, mumbling, “No, Coach.”

And I do everything possible to stop my hoot of laughter. It’s not really funny that he got caught by Echo’s parents while having sex, but…

Well, it is fucking funny.

There’s no two ways about it.

Then Coach moves on to Reed. “You’re married to my sister. And the only reason that occurrence has taken place, after all the stunts thatyouhave pulled over the years, is because you’re the father of my niece. And you seem to love her like a father should. And again, can’t credit your stellar relationship expertise for that, can you, Jackson?”

Reed shifts on his feet and takes a pull of his beer, embarrassed. “No, Coach.”

Coach is right. Reed has pulled several stunts over the years, but the main one has been breaking Callie’s heart and doing it so badly that she was compelled to steal his favorite car, a white Mustang, and driving it into the lake and consequently, landing herself at a reform school. Where in her senior year, she almost got expelled because Reed knocked her up.

“Andyou,” Coach moves on to Ledger whose tight features show that he’s not looking forward to whatever Coach Thorne, his oldest brother, has in store for him, at all, “it’s a wonder of wonders that she said yes to your psychotic ass after everything that you’ve done, including tricking her into marrying you. Without her knowledge or consent.”

Yeah, Tempest had thought that she was signing insurance papers and she was. Only this fucking idiot had also snuck their marriage certificate in the pile.
