“Lexi, I have never felt this way about anyone before. Before you, I thought that I’d spend my life on my own with just Bud, and I thought I was happy with that. But you showed me what I was missing, and in this short space of time, look at this amazing family we’ve created.”
He gestured at their fur-kids who, picking up on their excitement, could not keep still. Lexi laughed as a cat walked under her chin, rubbing his back along it until his tail tickled her face. Gently, she moved him out of the way, focusing on Kane again in this cherished moment that she wanted to sear into her head.
“You know that I don’t come to decisions easily, especially life-altering ones. Hell, I couldn’t even commit to where I’d live, but I know that I can’t live without you. And Bud has decided that you’re stuck with us.”
She grinned at him, tilting her head in that adorable manner he loved.
“Bud, huh?”
“Yeah. He told me.”
Bud backed him up with a bark, pawing the bed as his butt shook with excitement. He had no idea what was happening, only that it was important.
“So, I guess what we’re trying to say is, will you marry me and make me the happiest man alive?”
A dimple appeared, followed by her even bigger smile.
“I can’t very well let Bud down now, can I?”
“I was hoping you’d say that.”
With a whoop that could be heard clear across the city, Kane swooped her into his arms and proceeded to kiss his fiancée until she forgot everything else in the world but him.
