“Oh?” one of the two men asked. I honestly didn’t care which one since there wouldn’t be another meeting with them. However, their names seemed familiar. “Why is that?”

“Yes,” I finally turned my head toward them. “The ranch isn’t for sale.” I did so enjoy the befuddled look on Hank’s face and those of anger on the men from Canyon Industries. It was apparent they were used to getting their way. Too bad.

“It’s understandable that you need some time to grieve, but if you’ll just take a look at the dollar amount offered, I’m certain you’ll realize you’re making a huge mistake.”

Hank’s voice could become more irritating than his actions. I threw up my hand, not bothering to look him in the eyes.

“Hank. I thought you said this was a done deal.” Michael’s comment did nothing but fuel the anger furrowing inside of me.

“Allow me to take some time and talk with Mr. Cawthorne, Mike. As you can see, he’s very distraught about his grandfather’s death.”

The fact I was being talked about as if I wasn’t in the room was perhaps even worse than pushing for the sale. It was apparent my grandfather had never mentioned how powerful I’d become. It would seem the man would need to learn the hard way.

“We had your word, Hank,” Ben stated, throwing me a hateful look. “We’ve already started making plans.”

Hank seemed embarrassed, the man having the good graces of allowing his face to turn bright red. He’d been caught in more than just a lie.

“Gentlemen, what your buddy isn’t doing a good job of telling you is to get the fuck out. If I do become interested in selling my ranch, I’ll let you know.” No, I wouldn’t. They’d destroy the ranch and the surrounding area, refusing to take care of any aspect of the environment. When neither one of them moved fast enough for me, I shifted my venomous gaze from one to the other.

I wasn’t certain which one of them huffed the loudest as they pushed back their chairs, one of them smacking against the wall. They grabbed their hats, Ben stopping long enough to point his finger in Hank’s face.

“You’re going to hear from our attorney, Hank.” With that the two men walked out.

Hank waited until the door had been slammed shut before rising to his feet, immediately heading for a bar located near one of four massive windows in the room. Both of us remained quiet as he poured a single drink, finally realizing that he hadn’t been a very good host.

The tension was understandable, but the anger in me continued to increase.

“What are you trying to prove?” he asked me.

“What is there to prove, Hank? That you have a lot to lose if this deal goes south?” I shifted my gaze toward him, noticing his anxiety was much higher than before. He’d underestimated me. Another thirty seconds passed.

“Would you like a whiskey, Sebastian?”

I stood, taking a few seconds to push in the chair. It would seem I’d have plenty of time to purchase groceries before heading to my second meeting of the day. Instead of answering him, I took two long strides in his direction, shoving him against the wall with a savage thud.

He dropped the glass out of shock, his look of annoyance quickly turning to one of fear. I stood a solid six inches taller than him, had at least fifty pounds more of muscle. The cut of my suit presented a deceiving look regarding what I was capable of.

The splash of liquor landed all over his jeans, the hard crack as the thick crystal hit the floor allowing me a smile.

“Back the fuck off, Sebastian. I don’t think you want me to call the sheriff.”

I crowded his space, cocking my head. “Tsk. Tsk. Hank. I don’t think that would be in your best interest given it would seem you’re out to steal my grandfather’s estate. My guess is the two of you were never friends. He could spot a weasel from a hundred yards out.”

“In case you haven’t noticed, he’s dead.”

There were three things I couldn’t tolerate.

Men who took advantage of women.

Men who lied outright.

And men who believed their shit didn’t stink.

I had a feeling Hank fell into all three categories. There was no hesitation on my part as I wrapped my hand around his throat, squeezing just enough to get his attention. “I’m not entirely certain what game you’re playing, my good buddy Hank, but I will find out. I assure you when I do, discovering all the illegal aspects of how you handled my grandfather’s affairs, you will be punished.”

“You’re threatening to arrest me? I’ve done nothing wrong. I was the one who made certain your senile grandfather wasn’t taken advantage of.”

Senile? Now the fucker was crossing the line.
