Jackson frowns. “You should have come over.” He glances over his shoulder where his groupies are watching intently, eagerly waiting for his return. “I had no idea you were here.”

I wave away his comment, doing my best to look casual and not like a girl who might be falling for him. “No, that’s okay. You were busy.” I glance back at the group of girls, and Jackson follows my stare, looking over his shoulder before turning back to me.

He cocks an eyebrow. “Are you jealous, Red?”

I look back at him and find a dangerous smirk playing at the corner of his mouth. “No,” I say with narrowed eyes. “Why would I be jealous?”

His smirk grows. “Because that girl over there gave me her number.” He doesn’t take his eyes off me, but he nods his head in the direction of the gorgeous blonde.

I gape at him. “She did not.”

Jackson laughs, standing up straight so he can reach into his back pocket. “Oh, yes she did.” He puts a piece of paper on the small, round table between us, and sure enough, there’s a phone number scrawled in perfect handwriting—from Carly.

Seeing the name written with a heart next to it makes my eyes widen, and without thinking, I look up at him and mutter, “I hate her.”

Jackson grins. “I know you do.” Stepping around to my side of the table, he says, “Here,” as he holds my face between his hands.

I tense. “What are you doing?”

“Fuck Carly,” he says playfully, and then he full-on kisses me in front of everyone. It’s a kiss like you see in the movies. The kind that stops time and makes the room spin, and when he pulls away, my eyes stay shut for a moment until I hear clapping. My eyes fly open to find the other guys in the band responsible for all the noise, and I can’t help laughing as an embarrassed smile crosses my lips. At least no one from campus is here.

At least Rae and Matt aren’t here.

“Come on,” Jackson says, grabbing my hand. “They’re going to want to meet you after that.”

Margot fits right in with the guys, and I love watching her with other people. When she’s with me, she’s challenging and stubborn, and I like that more than I should. But with everyone else, she’s this sweeter version of herself that I rarely get to see. I like this version of her, too.

I can’t believe she came.

It’s not her type of music, and she acts like all I do is piss her off, but she’s here. And she was jealous of another girl. It has to mean something.

Those girls scattered as soon as I kissed her, and I’m pretty sure Carly isn’t expecting a call.

She was cute.

But she’s not Margot.

No one is Margot.

Brady laughs at something Margot just said, and I’m brought back to the present. She’s standing close enough that we could be mistaken for a couple, but not close enough for us to actually touch.

“So,” Brady says, his eyes darting back and forth between Margot and me before settling on her. “Are you the reason he’s been distracted lately?”

Margot looks at me with her eyebrows pinched. “You’ve been distracted?”

I shrug. “Finals.”

The crease between her eyebrows deepens, and I know she can see straight through my lie. Apparently, Brady can read her reaction too and lets out another laugh. “I thought so.”

Thankfully, he considers that the end of the conversation and goes to join Marty off to the side.

“Why have you been distracted?” Margot asks again, and this time, she touches my side, letting her hand linger. Her touch isn’t sexy, and she’s touched me more intimately before, but this time it’s in front of people, and that alone has my heart beating harder.

I bring my mouth closer to her ear to answer her. “You, of all people, shouldn’t have to ask that.”
