The actual reason I'd picked this place wasn't as simple, though.

Before I rented a place for us, I'd looked at all the options in my incorporeal form, and I'd settled on a different place before I visited this one. But then I'd shown up here and found Dakota mid-conversation with a friend. He'd been talking about how he'd renovated the whole place, and it'd taken six months for him to finish up, but how happy he was with the result and the thought of someone living in the place and appreciating all his hard work.

He had fascinated me, and the idea that he'd rebuilt so much of this place with his own two hands had made me want to do what he'd talked about: live in his house and appreciate all the effort he'd put into it.

That was why I'd decided to rent this place, and while I felt a little bad about lying to Ryk and Star, I knew they liked this place as much as I did now.

"Yeah, yeah, I know. It's not like I hate it or anything," Star grumbled, and I smiled.

"I know. You just like being a grumpy bastard," I teased, and he huffed before hopping off the counter.

"I'm gonna take a nap. Wake me when it's time for dinner," he said, then left the kitchen. Ryk watched him leave before returning to his seat on the counter.

"So...am I the only one who thinks our human is a total hottie?" Ryk asked, straightforward as ever, and I cleared my throat.

"He's not our human," I corrected him, then added, "and you're not." As a human, Dakota should’ve seemed weak to me. I was more powerful than him, magically and physically. Yet Dakota seemed to possess this quiet strength that I couldn’t help being attracted to.

Ryk grinned widely, his blue eyes bright as he turned to face me. "Do you think he likes men?"

"I don't know. And I don't know if it's a good idea to get involved with him even if he does," I said, and he pouted.

"But that's no fun," he said, then pulled his phone out of his pocket and took a glance at it. "Whoop, look at the time. I'm going to go grab a shower."

I narrowed my eyes at him, sure he was up to something, but he just gave me a smile and hopped off the counter before leaving the room.

Shaking my head at his retreating back, I returned my attention to the food I was cooking, humming under my breath and letting my thoughts drift. Cooking could be so therapeutic.

Ryk

I heard Dakota come home right when I was finishing up with my shower. Since we moved in two weeks ago, I'd kept my distance from Dakota. Not as completely as Star, but I hadn't initiated any conversations, and I'd definitely lost my cool when he asked me about the painting this morning.

But that was all going to change. I felt more settled in now, and I was ready to have some fun. Nico was the most serious one out of us, which meant he would've shut me down if I'd told him what I was going to do, which was exactly why I hadn't.

Grabbing my towel, I wiped off lightly before sliding on my sweatpants. Skipping the shirt, I started drying my hair and stepped out of the room at just the right moment...and smacked right into Dakota's chest.

My human form was only about 5'8", and at that height, I was at least five inches shorter than Dakota. He was also built as fuck because the chest I walked into was all muscles. While I had some definition to my form, Dakota was a god. Not that I believed in those.

"Whoops! Sorry!" I said, smiling up at him, and there it was. A faint pink color painted his stubbled cheeks. A human might not have noticed, but I sure did. His tan skin had turned just a few shades darker when I smacked into him, and his blue eyes were wide as he gazed down at me.

"Uh, it's okay," he said, and I realized his palm was on my waist. On my bare waist. It was rough and callused, and very warm.

As if realizing he was still holding me, Dakota took a big step back, dropping his hand to his side.

"Looks like I got your shirt wet. Sorry about that too," I said, and he waved me off. His eyes slid to my bare torso, and I watched as his Adam's apple bobbed.

"I'm gonna go finish dressing up," I said, and then winked at him just for fun before turning around and walking into my room. There was no way in all the realms that Dakota was straight. No straight man looked at another dude with that heat in his eyes.

Once dressed, I hurried into the kitchen, a wide grin on my face. I could hear Dakota puttering around his room—I had great hearing—so I didn't stop until I was right in front of Nico.

"I was right. He's definitely not straight," I declared, and Nico raised a brow at me.

"And you know this because?"

"Because I just stumbled into him half-naked, and he blushed like a tomato and almost humped me right there," I said, and Nico gave me his patented 'I don't believe you' stare. Okay, I might've exaggerated a little, but come on! Even someone with no gaydar would've been able to tell he was into me.

"I swear—he couldn't take his eyes off my body!" I hissed.
