"Nothing's wrong, but there's something we wanted to talk to you about," I said, and his brows shot up. Nico and Star walked into the room before he could speak, and his eyes took us in one by one.

"What is it?" he asked, and I glanced over at Star as he took one of the armchairs while Nico took the other. It was only now that I'd said the words that I realized we didn't exactly have a plan. Dakota wasn't going to believe us if we simply said we were demons. He'd probably think it was something we'd learned at the ‘cult’ we ‘grew up’ in.

"Uh…" I fumbled, trying to find the right words to explain, well, everything.

"Are you guys trying to break up with me?" Dakota asked hesitantly, and my eyes went wide.

"What? No! Fucking hell, Dakota," I said, shaking my head. Going up on my knees on the couch, I leaned over and smacked a kiss on the corner of his mouth. "We're not breaking up with you. Ever."

"Ever?" he asked with a raised brow, a slight smile curving his lips. He didn't look worried like before, though, so I was glad.

"Ever, if you allow it. What we want to tell you, it's something else, but something important. It's about us. Who we are. What we are," I explained, then glanced over at Star and Nico since they seemed to be making me do all the work. "Care to chip in, you two?"

Nico leaned forward in his seat, his finger twisting each other nervously as he spoke. "What Ryk is trying to say is there are some things we haven't told you yet. Things we weren't able to tell you before," Nico said, his voice wavering as he tried to explain.

Why was this so difficult? There were three of us, and yet we were struggling to explain it to one human. How did the supes of the human realm do this?

"Guys? Whatever you're trying to tell me, I'll listen. Why don't you take some deep breaths first and relax, hmm? I'm not going anywhere, so take your time to gather your thoughts, and then tell me, okay?" Dakota said, once again displaying the Afterworldly well of patience he had.

"Sorry," Nico said with a smile, and Dakota waved him off.

"Maybe we should just show you," I said, and Dakota gave me a curious look while Nico and Star shot me a stunned look.

"Show me?" Dakota asked curiously, but Star cut me off before I could explain.

"Show him? Are you crazy? You do know humans can die from a heart attack, right?"

"Humans?" Dakota mumbled in a low voice, and I scowled at Star.

"Dakota won't have a heart attack," I said and then remembered something. "Oh! I just had an idea. Wait here!"

Leaving them in the living room, I raced up to my room and started sifting through my paintings. I cheered when I found the right one and carried it downstairs with me.

Star gave me a suspicious look as I walked over to Dakota and showed him the painting. It was one I'd made of Star, Nico, and me in our demon forms, and I'd almost lost it when Dakota had called it 'familiar' the other day.

"Remember this painting?" I asked, and Dakota gave it a frown.

"Yes?" he answered hesitantly, and I smiled.

"Okay! Which one of them do you think is the least scary?" I asked, and Dakota gave me a look that I translated to 'what the hell does that have anything to do with anything?' "Humor me, please?" I added, and he sighed before pointing at Nico in the painting.

"All right!" I said, and then decided to go all out and tell him everything as simply as I could. "Well, here's the thing. Star, Nico, and I are demons."

The look Dakota gave me was so full of disbelief even I wondered if I was truly a demon. Yeah, he was going to need some hard proof.

"This painting? It's the three of us in our real forms," I continued, and Dakota shook his head.

"Are you guys trying to play a trick on me? Please tell me you don't honestly think that," Dakota said in a pleading voice, and I wondered what was going on in his head. He clearly didn't believe us. To him, it seemed like we were trying to prank him. Or that we'd lost our minds.

"It's true, Dakota, and we can prove it to you too," I said, then shot a glare at the two silent jerks. They seemed all too happy to throw me under the bus. "The one you pointed to in the painting is Nico. He can show you his true form."

Nico shot me a worried look, but stood up from his chair, his hands clasped together in front of him. "Would you like to see it?"

"I don't believe you. At all," Dakota said, then shrugged. "But sure, show me." His voice was full of skepticism, and I wondered what exactly he was expecting. Did he think Nico would pull out a costume from somewhere?

Nico glanced at me, and I gave him a small nod. Taking a deep breath, he faced Dakota head-on and shifted into his true form.
