Taylor nods with a cheesy grin. “Kay.”

After redirecting Taylor, I check on Mia as I watch Raith and Griggs from a distance. Griggs nods every now and then, but there’s no mistaking who he’s focusing on.

Raith releases Griggs from his imposed quarantine, and he works the party crowd, taking his time to speak to everyone here. We move around the table like dancing partners until he gets a chance to move closer to me.

“Griggs, I’m so sorry. Taylor seems to be batting a thousand with you.”

He chuckles. “Well, he definitely knows how to use his head.”

Raith’s sly grin is all too telling for me, making my face flame with embarrassment. “He was checking to see if you had the balls to talk to his mom.”

“Oh, should I do a show-n-tell?” Griggs cocks his brow, shutting Raith down quickly.

“Naw, man. I’m good.” Raith wanders away, leaving Griggs and me alone.

Griggs motions to my hands as I carry two plates for Mia and Taylor. “Can I help?”

“Sure, if you want to risk running into Taylor again.” I scrunch my nose at my lousy timing. “Too soon?”

Griggs’ eyes flicker to mine, earning him a timid smile. “So not cool.”

“Imagine how crushed I was, it’s been a while, and I was ready to ask if you had added to your jewelry.” I clutch my chest, pretending to be hurt.

“You must be careful; you’ll give Raith a heart attack.” Griggs checks to see where Raith is at the moment.

“Are you kidding? He still thinks I’m a virgin who adopted.” I snicker, earning a pinch in my side.

“You’re still a tease, I see.”

I gape at him, but Taylor chimes in before I can answer, breaking our staring contest. “Food.”

“I think he’s ready to eat.” Griggs stares fondly at Taylor.

“Yeah, I’ll take that over to Mia so you can grab some food yourself.” I refuse to think this was anything more than him trying to remember me as the girl next door.

“I’ll follow you,” Griggs says as he grabs two water bottles. “I haven’t met Mia yet.”

“She’s a mess.” I wink. “Can’t imagine who she takes it after.”

His brow cocks. “Oh, I remember you, and I guarantee Mia’s a spitfire like her momma.”

Chapter 6

Griggs

Hunter and I sit with the twins, enjoying the evening together as we have dinner. When Raith approaches us, Hunter springs from her seat and begins to clear the table. She practically runs away when Raith joins us. I can’t help myself; I watch her as far as possible before turning back to Raith.

He’s glaring at me. “What? We’re just catching up.”

“She’s my sister, man.” Raith continues to scowl at me.

I throw my hands in the air. “Okay! Hands off, I get it.”

“Do you?” Raith is locked and loaded with a dead look in his eyes. “Those three have been through hell; I don’t want them hurt again.”

“Are you saying I’d hurt them on purpose? What the fuck?” I glower at him.

“Don’t make me hurt you.” Raith's hand knots into a fist, and he taps the table. “You’re leaving soon, and she doesn’t deserve a one-night stand. You’re not teenagers anymore.”
