Addilyn Destil was definitely not the woman I had thought her to be.

Like a placid lake of peace in my heart and mind, I recognized the lack of desire, of yearning, for what I couldn’t have.

My lungs filled easier in realizing I no longer wanted Addilyn.

“So,” I breathed out the word along with relief.

Both Gideon and Addilyn turned toward me, but I wasn’t sure what to say beyond the interruption into the bubble that had seemed to enclose them. We’d barely known one another, and while I felt sure I’d figured out a shit ton of what had gone down after Gideon’s release from prison, I had kept my mouth shut and would continue to do so.

For Addilyn’s sake.

My cell pinged, and I pulled it from my pocket in case work needed me. I’d put in twelve-plus hours the day before, but I doubted they’d finished the cleanup.

An unknown number had texted.

I hope you don’t mind I got your contact info from my sister.

Nissa.

She’d bugged Ciarra while she and Josh were on their honeymoon?

I frowned, my fingers hovering over the screen as I contemplated a response.

“Is everything okay?”

I lifted my focus to find Addilyn’s eyes filled with concern.

“It’s Ciarra’s sister—”

“What’s wrong?” Addilyn cut me off, her spine stiffening and face paling as her thoughts obviously swerved down a dangerous road.

“Nothing,” I quickly assured her. “She…well, Ciarra kind of threw me into her sister’s arms last night after the two of you left the reception.”

“Ooo!” She leaned forward, propping her elbow on the table and chin in her hand, her grin spreading to light her eyes again. “I hadn’t noticed you’d made it to the party. Tell me more!”

“She, um…” I trailed off, not going into TMI like the two of them seemed to be fine with.

“Nissa asked to ride your dick, and you said no.”

I shot a glare at Gideon’s blunt assumption.

He lifted one eyebrow in question. “Am I wrong?”

I considered lying and just decided to keep my mouth shut. Turning toward Addilyn, I took the veered conversation with me. “Nissa called Ciarra to get my number.”

“Ciarra claims her sister is a pitbull.”

“You could say that again,” I muttered and pursed my lips while shaking my head. While I could appreciate tenacity, to bother someone on their honeymoon? Not necessary.

Addilyn’s eyes narrowed as she studied me, and Gideon sat back, draping his arm across her shoulders. “You would be good for her,” Addilyn mused quietly.

Ciarra had all but said the same thing if I remembered correctly, but I didn’t respond.

“Yep,” Addilyn added and nodded, sitting back to snuggle into Gideon. “Go for it, Leo, or you could end up regretting not taking a chance on what might be something worthwhile.”

Her advice sounded loaded with wisdom found from experience, and I glanced between the couple across from me. As though attached at the hip, they portrayed a bonded unit, one that no amount of adversity could rip apart.

To have such a love…
