“To get my number.” He lifted his coffee for a sip.

I bit back a snicker over him thinking I was that desperate. “Arrogant much?” I asked even though I kinda was all but panting for his dick.

He paused from drinking, his lips an inch from the to-go cup’s rim. “Did I get that wrong?”

“The timing, yes,” I replied.

Leo sipped but didn’t take his eyes off me.

“They stayed in town for a family brunch yesterday and didn’t fly out until last night.”

“Oh.”

“Yeah.” I still smirked as pink rose to color his cheeks, and he cleared his throat.

“So…” His voice trailed off as we stood beneath the warm Alaska sun, the scent of salt water on the breeze. A few birds called close by, and a horn honked from our right, but neither of us moved.

Caught up in his steady gaze, I took shallow breaths in attempts to slow my rapid pulse.

What was it about his brooding nature from the night before and kind eyes that turned me on more than any bad boy ever had? No piercings on his body or tattoos? No problem. Leo was fine as fuck exactly as he was.

But that didn’t mean I wouldn’t mind checking out what lay beneath his jeans and T-shirt.

“Have dinner with me tonight,” we blurted at the same time.

Laughter burst from both of us, a little shaky as though nervous—and hopeful.

Damn, he was one beautiful man.

Something had changed Leo in the thirty-six or so hours since I’d met him. He seemed more at ease, like whatever had held him back from going with his body’s desire for me had lifted, freeing him.

“Where and when?” I asked him, still grinning and more than a little jittery with excitement.

“Italian sound good?” he asked.

“If that question is to check if I’ll eat a pile of pasta instead of pick at a salad, hell yes.”

He laughed again, and I decided I needed to hear that sound every day for the rest of my life. Heat filled my face as I stared up at him, wondering if I was really considering giving up my freedom for a good man, one made even more captivating by his outward expression of happiness.

“What?”

I shrugged, smirking and rubbing at the goose bumps on my arms. “Seven?” I asked rather than go the naughty route I normally would have.

He nodded. “I’m actually out of here in a few hours so I can get some sleep before then. Geo’s?”

“Definitely,” I breathed the words, and the grin he flashed liquified my bones, dampening my panties.

Seconds later, I clutched my steering wheel, glancing too often in my rearview as he stood in the parking lot and watched me leave.

I wanted something more than a meal and stiff dick to fill me up, but was Leo the good choice Ciarra seemed to believe?

Or would I end up with a shattered heart while making the walk of shame I dreaded?

Chapter 5

Leo

I told myself we would go slowly no matter how much Nissa pushed for more like she’d done at her sister’s wedding reception.
