I touched my fingertip to his mouth, my own curving with a smile even as tears stung my eyes at his sure claim. “I like the nickname.”

“Do you like me?” he asked and bit the pad of my finger.

“Too much, too soon,” I whispered what my family would state with judgement lining their faces.

“Is there really such a thing?” Those searching eyes of his once more bore into me, but I didn’t bother hiding the real me. I’d already told him my greatest weaknesses, my inner feelings of failure.

“You’re everything Ciarra said you were, and I’ll be honest—I’m scared.”

“Why?” he asked, nuzzling into my palm.

“Because I’m always disappointed when reality comes calling and I find out who I thought might be perfect is far from a unicorn.”

“I decided I was going to be plain old me with you.” Seriousness oozed from Leo’s eyes, raw honesty that hurt my heart. “No putting on fronts of nonstop happiness or trying to win your heart by being who I thought you wanted me to be.”

God…he’d been perfection on top of me, inside me. “So, all that last night…that was really you, not some attempt to make me want a repeat?”

“For the first time, I felt free to be myself, to touch how I longed for, to speak the words our coming together brought to my mind rather than waiting for prompts or clues about what you might want me to do.”

My breath left in a rush as arousal once more tingled through me. “I’ll gladly climb aboard the real Leo train again—anywhere, anytime.”

He chuckled. “Funny you said that. Last night I was thinking you were an unexpected train that crashed into me.”

“So you’re saying I’m a train wreck?” I asked with a snicker, snuggling in closer to his warmth and hardness.

“I’m saying I’d like to find out if you’re what I think you are.”

“What’s that?” I purred up at him, my pulse thrumming.

The smile faded from his lips, but the intensity in his eyes grew, heating my skin. “Someone I could easily fall in love with.”

Tears once more sprang to life, tightening my throat. “You’re worth it too, Leo,” I whispered. “Let the falling commence.”

His heavy exhale bathed my face with minty breath. “I hoped you would be here when I got home from work tonight, but I changed my mind.” Leo didn’t give me time to stiffen or wonder. “Spend the rest of the week with me.”

“What if I want to stay longer?” I tossed out, laying my heart open to be flayed by a man I’d never anticipated meeting in my lifetime.

“Then stay….” Leo kissed me again, once more emptying my mind of thoughts about breakfast or his being late to work. All that registered were tingles and sighs, arousal and happiness, all of which intensified by the next word he whispered “…forever.”

THE END
