“How do you feel about getting a massage and then relaxing by the pool?” I hoped the suggestion of a massage didn’t make me look like one of those bougie Hollywood types, but a deep tissue massage sounded pretty damn good.

“A pool day would be great. I don’t know about the massage, though.”

I frowned. “Why not?”

She glanced down at her feet, and she gave a half-shrug.

Damn, I was an idiot. She’d been fired a couple of days ago, and while I didn’t know her financial situation, she’d admitted that her aunt and uncle were letting her stay at the resort for free. She probably didn’t want to spend money on something some saw as frivolous.

“The massage is my treat.”

She shook her head. “I can’t let you pay for that.”

“C’mon, don’t make me go by myself.”

“You’re ridiculous, but okay. I’ll go.” She leaned over and pressed her lips to mine. “I need to go shower first and change my clothes. Want me to meet you back here?”

I’d have preferred for the two of us to shower together, but she didn’t have any other clothes in my room. Besides, I needed to ensure the spa had openings and probably check in with Tommy. He’d texted me a few times the night before and would likely blow a gasket if I didn’t call him back soon.

“Yeah, but don’t take too long.” That may have sounded desperate, but I couldn’t find it within myself to give a shit. There was something about Kayla that drew me in, and I didn’t understand it. Usually, I’d avoid making an emotional connection with a woman at all costs, but with her, I wanted to explore the feelings she brought out in me.

After Kayla headed back to her room, I grabbed a quick shower and then called Tommy.

“About damn time I heard from you. Corey has gone on the offensive and is telling his side of the story. But I gotta be honest with you; his team has spun it, so you look like the asshole.”

I ran a hand over my head. “Of course he has. He’s a dick.”

“Even so. We need to take care of this, or it could affect your place in the franchise.”

“Shit,” I grumbled. “What do you suggest?”

“I’m working on lining up some interviews, and there is a charity event you’ll be attending this weekend.”

“Okay. Send the information when you have it.”

“You got it. How’s the mini-vacay going, by the way?”

“It’s good. I had a run-in with the paps, but otherwise, it’s been uneventful.”

“Uneventful, huh? You’re not going to mention the mystery girl you’re with?”

Shit. I hadn’t told him about Kayla because it wasn’t any of his business. But clearly, photos of us together had made their way onto the internet. Usually, it wouldn’t be a huge deal to me. It’s not like being seen with a woman was new for me. Except she wasn’t like the other women.

“Don’t worry about her. She’s someone I’m spending some time with here, but I don’t want the paps sniffing around her. We’re staying at the resort today, so it shouldn’t be a problem.

“Well, I doubt the paparazzi are still in Santa Barbara, anyway.”

“Why’s that?” I questioned.

“Not sure if you heard, but Solomon Frye and Lola Warren announced they’re splitting.”

“Are you serious?” Solomon and Lola had been married for at least twenty-five years and were Hollywood’s golden couple. Their split would garner quite a bit of attention.

“Yep, and Solomon is parading his nineteen-year-old co-star all around town. Supposedly, he’s moving her into his house now that the divorce is public knowledge.”

“What an idiot. But I’m not complaining if it gets the paps off my back.”

“You should be good. Anyway, I need to make a few more calls to get these interviews lined up. You still coming home tomorrow?”
