I’d texted her when I first left Blaine’s room this morning to tell her how our first date had gone and that we planned on going to the spa and spending the day together. I was sure she was dying to hear all the details, and that was why she’d invited me over.

Me: I’ll be there if you promise to have an endless supply of wine and ice cream.

It only took a couple of seconds before my phone started ringing. “Hi,” I said when I accepted the call.

“Are you okay?” The worry in Simone’s voice was unmistakable.

“I’m fine.” I let out a sigh. “Blaine had to go back to LA tonight.”

I told Simone everything that had happened over the last two days.

“Wow,” she responded. “It sounds like you had a pretty amazing time with him. And you looked good together in the photos I saw online.”

“Oh god. You saw those?”

“I did,” she said, and I could her the laughter in her voice. “He looked very protective of you in those pictures. A guy doesn’t act like that with a woman he just wants to have sex with and ditch. I really do think he’ll call.”

“I hope so—” A knock at the door interrupted me. “Hold on. Someone’s knocking.”

“Use the peephole!” Simone warned.

Standing on my tiptoes, I did as she said and couldn’t believe my eyes. “It’s Blaine,” I whispered. “I’ll call you later.”

I flipped the security swing bar and opened the door. “What are you doing here?”

Something intense flared in his gaze. “I couldn’t do it.”

My brow furrowed. “What couldn’t you do?”

“I couldn’t leave you here.” He stepped forward and caressed the side of my face with his large hand. “I’m not ready to let you go.”

“But you need to be in LA,” I breathed.

“Yeah, I do. But…”

“But what?”

“I want you to come back with me.”

A nervous laugh escaped my lips. “You’re joking?”

His gaze bored into mine, telling me how serious he was. “I’m not. But if you don’t want to, I understand.”

“No, that’s not it. I’m just surprised. I was kind of worried you’d forget all about me once you got home.”

He kissed me softly. “I could never forget you. Come spend a couple of days with me in LA, and we can figure things out from there.”

I hesitated for a moment. “I’m supposed to be looking for a job.”

“You can use my computer, and it’s not like you can’t drive home if you get an interview. But again, if you don’t want to—”

“I want to.”

His face split into a huge smile. “You’re coming with me?”

I nodded. “I’m not ready to let you go, either.”

Once we finished packing my suitcase, he grabbed it and then laced the fingers of his free hand with mine. “Let’s go.”

With an uncertain future, heading to LA with Blaine was possibly the craziest thing I’d done in my entire life. But nothing had ever felt more right.
