Knox: How could we forget? You talked about her for weeks.

Thorson: What’s she have to do with anything? We want to know about the woman who got hurt.

Forrest: Yeah….

I swear they loved to razz me. But Knox wasn’t wrong. I had talked about her for weeks.

Me: Well, she’s the woman who fell and hit her head.

Knox: No fucking way.

Thorson: What the hell? That’s crazy.

Forrest: What are you gonna do now that she’s here?

And that was my in to ask for their advice.

Me: I know it’s crazy. I honestly don’t know what to do. I stayed at the hospital with her while she gets checked out.

Knox: You should find out more about her.

Thorson: You have to talk to her about Miami.

Forrest: I can’t wrap my head around the fact that she randomly appears out of nowhere in our small town.

Me: Her grandmother is Thelma Thorson. She came back because she passed away.

Thorson: HOLY SHIT … what a small world.

Knox: This just keeps getting more bizarre.

Forrest: Is she from here?

Me: I’m still in shock honestly. I don’t know. We didn’t get very far before she was taken back for a cat scan.

Just as I finished typing and sending the last message, she came back into the room.

“The radiologist shouldn’t take long to look at the results of the scan. Let us know if you need anything, Ms. Thompson,” the nurse said as he locked the wheels of her bed.

“Thank you.”

“Anytime. Just doing my job.” He smiled before leaving us alone in the room.

“How are you feeling?” I asked as I scooted the chair I was sitting in beside her bed.

“The back of my head is sore, and I have a slight headache, but other than that I feel fine.”

“No dizziness or nausea?” I asked, unable to help myself from going into work mode.

“None at all. So, a paramedic. I never would’ve pegged you for one.”

“Why’s that?” I asked with a smirk.

Did that mean she thought about me after our weekend together?

“You said you worked for the fire department. I thought you’d have been a firefighter.”

“Technically, I am. In our small town, everyone who works for the fire department is trained to fight fires and in emergency services.”
