“Alyx Carter, for your crimes against The Royalty, I’ve sentenced you to be our next vessel, whether you like it or not.” He looks down at me with a smirk.

“After that, you will be taken to the basement and held there until the end of your days!” Lennox adds.

“No! Don’t you fucking dare! You can’t do this to me, Lennox! That’s not fair!’ I shakily shout back at him. I try to break free from the hands that hold me, but to no avail.

The two guys drag me towards the stone table while two other guys untie the woman, pick her up, and dump her body into the corner, putting me in her place. They tie the rope around my wrists and feet and secure me. The ropes start to dig into my wrists almost immediately as I struggle against them. “Lennox! Let me fucking go!”

A man walks over to the woman’s body and takes the gag from her mouth. My eyes widen as he starts walking towards me with it. They couldn’t possibly put that in my mouth, too. I try to pull my face away, but he grabs me by the chin, shoves the used gag in my mouth and secures it behind my head. I start to gag, almost throwing up.

Once I am secured and silenced, all of the men step back into their positions around the table. Fear takes over my body as thoughts of what is to come flood my mind. The demons inside that portal want out, and I will be their next victim. What happens once one takes hold of my body? Will I even be me any more? I don’t know what will happen. I’ve seen what it has tried to do before, but no one is coming to save me.

Lennox starts chanting again from the same book, and the portal begins to open. Everything around the room starts flickering. I can’t keep my eyes focused on one spot; they begin to hurt. I feel something wet trickling down my wrist and turn to look at it. The ropes have been put on so tight that they cut into my skin, causing me to bleed. Great, that’s going to scar, if I can even be scared any more after this demon takes over my body.

Suddenly, there’s an eerie growl, and Lennox stops chanting. I turn my head back to face Lennox, as he looks directly at the portal.

Why has he stopped chanting?

Panic starts to settle in, and everything in the room goes eerily quiet. I turn my head to the portal, praying that what was there wasn’t anything I saw inside a few minutes ago.

At the front of the portal stands a demon with bright white eyes and sharp teeth surrounded by thick smoke. It doesn’t take shape like an animal or another human being. It is just floating there like smoke. My eyes widen in panic. No! No! No! This shit is not happening right now! I want it to stay the fuck away from me.

It makes its way over to me, slowly looks me up and down, and then eyes Lennox.

“Is this specimen for me?” The Demon growls.

“Yes. This vessel is for you,” Lennox whispers, gesturing towards me.

After Lennox says those words, The Demon looks back at me, and as quick as lightning, my gag is ripped off, and The Demon’s smoke enters my mouth. My body convulses off the table as it fills up with the smoke. Bones begin to shatter, and muscles are ripped to shreds. The pain is unbearable. “Fuuuuuck!” I scream.

My body starts to go into shock, and everything goes black.

When I awake, everyone looks at me with wide-eyed expressions. Some looked concerned, and some looked petrified.

“Alyx? Are you okay? How do you feel?” Lennox asks me, with a concerned look on his face.

I look at him with pure anger, hatred, disgust. I’ve never hated another person in my entire life, but I hate Lennox right now.

“Am I okay? Are you fucking seriously asking me that?” I shout at him, but it comes out of my mouth as a deep growl. What the fuck?

Lennox jumps back in fright. He honestly looks like he is about to shit himself.

“Alyx, your eyes,” Lennox points at me.

I raise my eyebrow, wondering what the fuck he’s talking about. I pull my limbs from the ropes that still bind me to the table with ease and stood up.

Stretching my body, I walked over to the cracked mirror on the wall to look at my reflection. My eyes were hazel, but now they are a deep, dark green with speckles of blue under my irises. I didn’t think that was possible, but I now have different-coloured eyes.

“What the fuck happened to me?” I ask.

“We don’t know. The Demon entered you, and then everything went still. You stopped breathing and didn’t move for two hours.” Lennox begins to pace. “You just laid there. We thought it didn’t work.”

“Well, clearly it fucking worked. I’m standing right here with different coloured eyes. Wait a minute… What do you mean I stopped breathing? How could I have stopped breathing when I’m standing right here?” I say, with a look of confusion on my face.

“Well, there was a slight mistake with the ritual. Using you as a vessel instead of the woman has caused you to have your mortality stripped from you. It’s a curse if we do the ritual wrong,” Lennox whispers while looking at the floor.

“How could I have had my mortality stripped from me if I’m standing right here?” I shout to him. “This isn’t making any sense!” I add. I can feel the anger inside me boiling to the surface.

I walk up to him to get him to face me, but instead, he just cowers away from me.
