I’m sitting at the kitchen table, scrolling through a bunch of bullshit the media has sprouted out in the last twenty-four hours. One headline reads,
Roy leaves Texas. Rehab?
Another reads.
Is Greyson Roy spiraling?
And the cherry on top reads,
NFL star Greyson Roy and model Anna Leslie in love.
I toss my phone down and groan. This wasn’t part of the bargain that I enjoyed. I enjoyed the field. The win. My team mates. Speaking of….
I snatch up my phone and hit Krew’s contact. He’s one of my closest friends next to Adam, and our quarterback. He doesn’t even know I left. Well, I guess he might if he’s opened Twitter this morning.
“Sleep late, sweetheart?” I mock when he answers.
“Fuck off Roy. I’ve been up since four.”
“Already on the second workout of the day?” I ask.
“Yep. First one is at four. Conditioning at eight. You know the drill.” I can hear him open a door and slam it.
There isn’t a man I know more committed than Krew. He works his ass off. Frankly I’m not sure if it’s just his love of the game or it’s how he battles his demons. Either way he’s a fucking force on the field.
“Copy that.” I glance over at the empty kitchen.
“You up for a run?” He asks.
“I’m not at the house. I came back home last night,” I admit.
I can hear him gulp something down. “Is this a see the family visit or is this about her?”
“Her?” I probe, acting as if I have no clue who he’s referring to.
“Your girl.” I can hear his smirk through the phone. Dick.
“She’s not my girl,” I grit out.
Not publicly anyway. Yet.
“I spent the last five years living next door to you, Greyson. Despite your grumpy ass, you get rather chatty when you're drunk.”
“We’ve been through this.” I run my hand across the smooth slate counter top. “She’s Adam’s sister.”
“I guess it’s good thing you’re in love with Anna Leslie, yeah?”
