It’s funny how such a broody man like him can be so gentle. The way he tenderly sits me on my feet, then flips on the shower. With a goofy smile, I face the mirror, noticing how thoroughly happy I look. My skin is bright, my eyes glowing. and the smile on my face is beginning to hurt as it grows. I pluck out my hearing aids, laying them on the counter and slip off my socks he insisted I keep on, before I join Greyson in the shower. His large frame takes up most of the space, but I don’t mind. I had nothing to complain about in this moment. I never really got to just look at him. My eyes trail down the muscles in his shoulders, down his biceps, along his delicious abs, then down his thick thighs. I felt the heat in my core radiate through me when his cock twitches. I dart my gaze to his face as he runs his head under the spray. When his head tilts forward, he notices I’ve stepped in. He shifts over, tugging me under the water next to him.

You alight? He signs. Did I hurt you?

I laugh at the worry on his face.

No. I feel very satisfied.

We could have gone slower. His eyes caress me.

It would have hurt either way. I lift a shoulder. I don’t want gentle, Grey.

He grins then snatches up a bottle of my shower gel. The liquid squeezes onto his hand, then he pauses, leaning down to smell the scent.

What? I ask.

He turns the bottle to read the name.

A thousand wishes? I question. It’s my favorite.

He places the bottle back.

That smell. He points at me. I smelled it the night I kissed you.

Which time? I lift a brow.

He gives me a pointed look. The first time. He lathers the soap in his hands. I’ve never forgot it.

I feel myself blush. The fact he remembers my scent from seven years ago. Gah, what is he doing to me? I feel like a pile of mush when he says things like that.

I was too busy blushing, to notice he had moved. I startle when his palms graze along my arms. He takes the time to massage the soap along my arms before he’s moving to my stomach, down my legs, then to my back. He spins me around and I plant my hands along the cold tile wall as he works the soap down my back. I’ve never felt anything as good as when his hands are on me.

He steps closer, pressing his wet chest against me. There’s no way I can miss the steel rod against my lower back. I arch back into him when I feel feather light kisses along the back of my neck. Turning to face him, I lean back against the wall. I don’t want to ruin the moment, but a question has been burning in my mind for weeks.

That night before the charity auction. I sign then swipe some water from my eyes. Why did you come to me?

He uses his thumbs to clear the water trickling down my cheek, then turns off the spray.

Let’s talk out there. He signs.

I follow as he steps out. After wrapping a towel around himself and then me, he leads me to my bed, positioning the pillows where I can rest against them.

I slip my hearing aids back in before I settle on the mattress, my legs crossing as I face him.

His hand reaches for mine, running his thumb over my knuckles. “I’m retiring.”

“Retiring? Already?” I was confused. Greyson loved football more than anything. It was his dream. A dream he achieved and excelled at. Something I thought he would do until he physically couldn’t anymore.

“I’m kind of in a spot where I have to.” He holds up a hand. “One sec.”

He jogs out of the room but is back a few seconds later with his phone in hand.

He thumbs a few apps then hands it to me. My heart sinks when I see scans. Brain scans.

“Grey…” I look up at him. “What is this?”

“Doc says I’ve had too many concussions.” He swipes the screen. “I’ve been having some symptoms since the last one earlier this season and he said if I didn’t walk away now, it wouldn’t be too surprising if I ended up with CTE.”

I can feel the tears fill my eyes as I read through a bunch of words I don’t understand.
