“He was beat up pretty good, but a gunshot wound to the back of the head is what killed him.” Easton briefly meets my eyes.

I drop my hands down from Tilly’s shoulders, then spin round to scrub a hand down my face.

This is bad.

I was there. I hit him. My blood is probably mixed with his.

Fuck.

We fought. I won’t lie about that. I threatened him. But I didn’t kill him.

“Grey..” My brother’s voice has me turning to face him. “If there’s something you need to tell us, now is the time.”

I peer down at Tilly, her eyes are filling quickly and she jumps up from the chair, crashing into my chest.

“He was sending her threatening messages last night.” I let my hand cup the back of her head. “I went over to have a talk with him. It got heated. I threw a few punches, but that was it. He was alive and well when I left. I swear.”

“Fuck, Greyson.” Adam slams his fist on the table.

“I wasn’t going to stand by and let him threaten her!” I roar. “He already put his fucking hands on her. I wish I would have been the one to kill him,” I seethe.

“Can we just calm down.” Easton stands. “Look, we already know the Denver PD are going to want to question you Tilly. I know y’all just split up, but I doubt anyone knows it yet.”

Tilly pulls away, swiping at her face. “I haven’t even seen him or spoken to him since Thursday when…” she trials off. “When he assaulted me.”

Adam paces over to the living room, muttering God knows what to himself.

“Oh my God.” Tilly eyes widen. “What if they think it was me? Because he hit me.”

“No.” I reach for her. “You had nothing to do with this. That’s not even something you need to worry about.”

“But you do.” Adam stops pacing. “We’ll do our best to keep an ear for what they find. But Grey, they might come for you. If they do you need to be ready.”

Shit.

“Can y’all excuse me.” Tilly slips past me, quickly jogging up the stairs.

I had to latch onto the back of the couch to keep myself in place instead of chasing after her.

“Grey.” Adam’s voice is steady.

“Yeah.” I glance over at him.

“I’m only going to ask this once. And whatever your answer is, I’ll believe it.”

I knew what was coming. I face my best friend. Eye to eye.

“Did you do it?”

I hold his stare before I answer. “No.”

He nods. “That’s all I need to know.”

My eyes move to the stairs, and he waves me off. “Take care of her. It may be a rough few days.”

“Alright.” I reach out to shake his hand.

He took it, then my brother approaches me. “We’ll try to keep a handle on it.”
