Chapter 54

Greyson

I’m lying on a mattress that’s as thin as my patience when my cell clangs open.

“Get up, Roy.” The guard commands.

I have no clue what time it is. There are no windows where I’m at, so I stand and hold out my wrists.

He shakes his head. “No need. You’re being released.”

“Released?” I repeat.

“Yep. Charges were dropped.” He smacks his gum. “Let’s roll, got shit to do today.”

I don’t argue, I follow him out and down the hall as whistles and yells sound behind me. No one gives me any information as I’m given my clothes, my phone, and everything I came in here with. With a quick dismissal like I wasn’t labeled a cold blooded murderer as of three minutes ago, I’m let out into a parking lot, with the sun barely rising above the sky.

I glance around and Adam comes striding up from his truck.

“Grey.” He nods, embracing me when he gets to me. He slaps my back, then pulls away.

“What the hell is going on? I’ve been released?”

He pulls out his phone and starts to the truck.

“There’s been some major developments in the last twenty-four hours, but we gotta get back to Timber Creek.”

We hop in his Ford, and he’s in reverse before I even get the door closed. My shoes aren’t even tied, so I reach down, tying the strings as we leave the gates.

“Start from the top,” I grumble.

“First thing, and do not freak the fuck out,” he says, which now has my muscles bunched and I’m ready to do just that when he gets out these next words.

“Someone put hidden cameras in Tilly’s house.”

I clench my fists. “Fucking cameras?” I roar. “I swear, if he wasn’t already dead.”

“That’s the thing Grey. It wasn’t Blaine.” He slows down, flipping on his blinker.

“What do you mean it wasn’t him?” I turn in my seat.

“Those cameras lead back to an address in Mountain Lake.”

“Mountain Lake? That’s two towns away? Who does she know in Mountain Lake?”

“The cameras were meant to watch Tilly, but they also caught something that saved your ass.” He glances at me. “They rushed the autopsy. Him being as well known as he was helped. Time of death was estimated to be around two AM.”

“Ok.” I try to process the information.

“You entered through the front of Blaine’s condo, but you never left out of the front,” he points out.

“I went out back. The front was closed off for maintenance.” I remember the yellow signs and the taped off area.

“Right. But there was a camera hidden in Tilly’s living room. It places you back at the house by twelve forty-five AM."

I rub my hand across my jaw at the memory of what I was doing at that exact time. I had Tilly spread out on the dining room table.

I clear my throat. “I uh…. Did you watch the video?”
