She’s here.

I push off the balustrades and walk down the stairs. My pack is with me. I can feel it.

She looks up and sees us coming. For a second, I think she might run, but instead, she straightens her shoulders, snags a drink, and turns on those ridiculously tall shoes.

Where the fuck is she going? Who cares? I’ll follow her anywhere.

“That’s our queen,” Grayson says beside me.

Falcon growls and pushes through the crowd as we follow her through the massive house.

She leads us to the back doors and steps outside. The gardens are beautiful. Grayson designed them, but Hazel has them glowing with little balls of light and crystals. It looks like a sea of flowers.

She walks to the edge of the terrace and stops, her hands on the rail. Even her nails are long and crimson.

Onyx, my Onyx, glances back, and she’s nervous. I see it now in the tightness of her shoulders, in the line of her jaw.

“Onyx,” Dylan murmurs.

She turns then, and when he steps forward, she holds up her hand to stop him.

“I'm here to tell you the truth.”

Falcon tenses.

“Why now?” Grayson growls.

She gives Grayson an amused smile, though it seems forced. “Your sister is a powerful, persuasive presence.”

She reaches back, gripping the railing, making the jacket pull tight, giving us a view of the curve of her breast.

Fuck.

“Okay, so, um. God, this is harder than I thought it would be.” She bites her lower lip.

I surge into her space, gripping her hips and dragging her to me. She gasps and grips my jacket, holding herself steady.

“Silas?”

“I don't care anymore,” I say into her mouth.

“I didn’t do it,” she whispers.

“My mother-”

“Vienne,” she says at the same time as me.

We stop, and I find myself lost in her eyes. I need to remove the mask. I reach up, but she steps sideways and stops when she finds her way blocked by Grayson.

He looks hungry. His mask is hanging forgotten in his fingers. Nyx responds with a blush that deepens the pale colour of her chest.

She turns and finds Falcon. Her eyes hit him, drop to his lips, and then rise back up.

Once more, she turns and, in the darkest shadows, she finds Dylan. I almost can’t see his face, but whatever moment they share is strong enough that she shudders.

“Listen to me, Onyx. We’re prepared to hear you out. Tell us everything. All of it, but you need to know that we already made a decision.”

She tenses. “So nothing will change your mind?”
