Peter must have realized that he was hurting her because his grip on her loosened a fraction. "The only thing that my roommate will feel is jealousy that a beautiful woman is spending the night with me."

Was that true, or was he just saying it to make her feel good?

She felt compelled to challenge his assertion. "What if I want to stay more than one night?"

He smiled. "Then he would be even more jealous, and I would be even happier and more honored."

"Okay, then. But you have to wait for me to be done for tonight, and it's going to be really late. I can't leave before the kitchen is clean."

"I'll wait for you, and when you come, I'll draw you a bath and massage your aching feet."

The groan that escaped her throat sounded more like a lust-filled moan. "If you keep saying such wonderful things to me, I might fall in love with you."

"Is that bad?"

"Of course, it is. You are immortal, and I'm mortal. There is no future for us."

He dipped his head and took her lips in a gentle kiss. "I'm not thinking about forever love. For-now love is good enough for me."

MARGO

"Margo." Alberto lifted his wine glass and leaned back with it in his hand. "We've been talking about me and Jasmine the entire evening, but you didn't tell us anything about yourself."

"What do you want to know?"

"Who are you with? I'm sure a beautiful woman like you isn't vacationing alone."

The guy probably told all the women he talked to that they were beautiful, but Margo couldn't help but feel pleased by it. "I'm attending my future sister-in-law's week-long bachelorette party."

He arched a brow. "So why aren't you celebrating with her tonight?"

Margo didn't want to tell him about Lynda and the others being away in the club. She no longer thought he wanted to sell Jasmine to the highest bidder, but there was a lot about the guy that still seemed shady, and she didn't trust him.

"After nearly a week, I needed a little break from Lynda and her girlfriends."

Alberto smiled knowingly. "Did you have a fight with your future sister-in-law?"

His mocking tone annoyed her. In fact, a lot about the guy grated on her, but she couldn't put her finger on what it was. He was unapologetically chauvinistic, so maybe that was it.

"I didn't have a fight with Lynda." There was really no harm in telling him that Lynda was away from the resort at the moment. It wasn't as if she was a factor in his decisions, even if they were shady. "She and her friends went to a club, and I decided to pass. I don't like the club scene, and I've been a good sport about partying with them so far."

"I can understand that." His tone turned compassionate, and his eyes conveyed commiseration. "How much longer is this bachelorette party going to last? You sound like you've had enough of it."

Now she was back to liking him. The guy was very attuned to her, which meant that he was an attentive listener who heard more than just what was said. He got the emotions behind the words, which was pretty rare for men.

Crap, I'm doing that again. I shouldn't generalize.

It was the wine's fault, and the Cadillac margarita before that, and that other drink she'd had before that one. She really needed to cut back on the alcohol, or she would start acting like Lynda and her girlfriends, flirting with waiters and making a fool of herself.

"It's almost over. Tomorrow is the last day."

The smile Alberto gave her looked predatory. "Are you happy to be going home?"

"I'm not happy about going back to work, but I miss sleeping in my own bed."

She didn't want to tell him about the cruise, and she cast a loaded glance at Jasmine, who nodded that she understood her meaning.
