"Thank you." The saleslady put the other three on the floor. "Do you need my assistance trying them on?"

"Not at all." Margo smiled at her brightly. "Your time will be better spent assisting other customers. I still have all those other things you brought to try on."

"Thank you." The woman cast her a grateful look. "Take your time. I only allow the most discriminating customers into this dressing room, and it's all yours for as long as you need it." She turned to look at Negal, who, in the meantime, had managed to get his fangs under control. "If you buy five items or more, I will give you a twenty percent discount."

"Thank you."

Once she was gone, Negal released a breath. "I don't know why I lose control like that around you."

Margo liked having such an effect on him. It made her feel more powerful and, in turn, less fearful.

Walking over to him, she cupped his cheek. "That's because you like me, and you think that one day I will become the love of your life."

He leaned into her hand. "What do you think? Is that going to happen?"

"You are very easy to love, Negal," she whispered. "But I need more time. I believe in starting small and allowing for measured growth. It's healthier that way."

He nodded. "Wise words."

ROBERT

Robert stood at the foot of the podium, his six groomsmen flanking him and a glowing goddess behind him, her palpable power like a brand on his back.

It occurred to him that it was rude to have his back to the Clan Mother, and he shifted his stance so he had his side to her but could still watch the entrance to the dining hall and behold his bride as she walked in surrounded by her bridesmaids.

He hadn't seen Sharon since morning because she'd insisted that it was bad luck for the groom and bride to be together on the day of their wedding. It was a silly human superstition, but then Sharon had been a human until not too long ago.

Having been the one who had induced her immortality was special to him, and he had no doubt that the bond between them was formed because of that. Bridget and Amanda believed that it was the other way around and that Dormants who bonded with their immortal partners had a better chance of transitioning, but even though he knew next to nothing about science, Robert was sure that the bond was the result of the induction. Otherwise, it didn't make sense that so many couples were fated mates.

But what did he know?

He was just a simple soldier with decent organizational skills, who Kian had taken pity on and had given a job in the clan's building and development projects.

Robert's swirling thoughts came to an abrupt stop as the bridal march started playing. The doors to the dining room opened, and Sharon's six bridesmaids walked in and joined the groomsmen.

He held his breath as he waited for his bride to emerge, and as she walked in, with her head held high and a bright smile that was all for him, his heart stopped racing, and a calm washed over him.

Everything was good in his world as long as she was in it.

Returning her smile, he waited until she reached the podium and took her hand.

"Hi," he mouthed.

Her smile broadened, but she didn't reply. Instead, she turned toward the goddess, and he turned with her.

They both bowed to the Clan Mother, who smiled fondly at them.

"My children," she addressed both of them, and Robert's heart flooded with warmth. "You are here today, standing in front of me and waiting for me to officially join you, but your hearts have been joined for a long time."

The goddess shifted her gaze to the audience and smiled. "We are gathered here not to unite these two souls but to acknowledge their union and celebrate it. Sharon and Robert's union defies the ordinary and is a testament to the extraordinary power of forgiveness, transformation, and love. Today, we honor the bond of a couple whose journey to this altar is a remarkable tale of redemption, courage, and the healing power of love.

"Once, Robert walked a path shrouded in darkness, yet within him burned a light, a beacon of honor and compassion that not even the deepest shadows could extinguish. When faced with the unimaginable cruelty inflicted upon one of our own, it was this light that guided him to do the right thing, to defy his sworn allegiance, and to choose the path of righteousness. To aid in her escape, he forsook his former life, everything he worked for, and everyone he knew, proving that his inner light and spirit had not been crushed. That day, good triumphed over evil.

"Robert's journey led him to our doors, seeking sanctuary, understanding, and a new beginning among those he once thought were his enemies.

"When he met Sharon, she rekindled a flame from the flickering embers of his past—a flame of love, trust, and mutual respect. Sharon saw more than Robert's past. She saw the noble heart that lay within, and together they have woven a new narrative, one that speaks to the transformative power of love and a new dawn.
