“Ryker, be serious for one second,” she says, turning around to switch positions with me.

I squeeze some body soap into my hand and start to wash myself too, though I’d rather keep her scent on me all day.

“I am being serious. You sound good when you come.”

I know that comment is going to embarrass her more but poking at her is my new favorite pastime.

“Ryker!” she squeals. “Fine, I’m getting out if you can’t be serious.”

I turn around quickly and grab her arm before she exits the shower.

“Whoa, hold on,” I tell her, pulling her back behind the shower curtain.

I take a step closer to her and slide my hand behind her neck, pulling her lips to mine to kiss her.

“Are we really doing this?” I ask, because it almost seems too good to be true.

“Yes,” she says, grinning up at me. “We’re really doing this.”

I release her and she gets out, drying off with a towel while I finish washing off. Then, she and I both get dressed and head back out to the kitchen. It must have started snowing while we were in the shower because large snowflakes cover the sky and my entire family is out in the backyard dancing in it.

There’s no chance anyone heard us in the shower, not that I would have cared.

Since Juliet and I leave first thing in the morning, we spend the rest of the day at my mom’s playing board games, coloring with the kids, and watching old home videos of our childhood.

It seems like it always gets harder and harder to leave this place and these people but I still have a commitment to the Hawkeyes and Juliet and I have a lot to work out.

Will she agree to move away from her business and family in exchange for a life with me in Vancouver?

I guess I should have asked that question before I handed her my heart and my future because I won’t be asking for it back.

Chapter Twenty-Five

Juliet

It’s been four days since we got home from Vancouver and things with Ryker are even better than I imagined.

The new bed he ordered got delivered and set up before we got home and he convinced me to move all of my wardrobe into his walk-in closet. It’s even bigger than the one in the second master and, shockingly, still has growing space for more clothes.

Today is the first of three alumni-inspired home games that Shawnie and I will be setting up. After spending the entire day nitpicking every little thing we put up, I think Shawnie and I are really showcasing what we are capable of.

“Whoa… this looks good,” a familiar man’s voice says as Shawnie and I stand at the Hawkeyes’ front door entrance to get the full picture of the lobby.

I look over to find Ryker walking out in his uniform.

The fans are already at the doors to get let in but Shawnie and I still have twenty minutes before early admission starts, in case we need to change anything.

“Do you like it?” I ask.

He walks up and lowers his lips to mine, laying a sweet tender kiss against my lips before looking at the space again.

Large Hawkeyes-colored balloon arches are placed over every single concession stand. Throwback pictures of each of the three alumni members coming in tonight are blown up and hung in different places around the space. All three jerseys are hung up high, and fans can see them framed in glass the minute they walk in.

“You two outdid yourselves. Has Marjorie seen this yet?”

“Not yet, but Autumn, Tessa, and Penelope have been in here and helped blow up balloons earlier today, so they’ve seen it and love it.”

Ryker gives the space one more look and then smiles down at me.
