“He proposed to you? Why aren’t you the one married to him instead of me?”

What is going on?

Did he propose to two women?

When did this happen?

“He proposed to me first but without a ring,” she says, her eyes casting down at my left hand.

“Oh my God,” she says, taking quick steps toward me.

My body goes ridged as she gets closer to me and I consider taking steps backwards away from her until she reaches out and grabs my left hand with a strong grip.

“He got you a three-carat diamond? I only asked for two carats,” she whines.

Honestly, who the hell is this woman and why isn’t Ryker married to her instead if they dated before he and I met and he proposed to her?

“So then why are you not wearing this ring instead of me?”

The idea that I was the second pick kind of hurts, even though I didn’t even know him before we ran into each other in the parking lot.

“I didn't want to live in Canada,” she says. “But now you can stay married to him for two years while he and I still date. Then when he becomes a resident, you two can get divorced and he and I can go back to our life together. Everyone wins.”

Everyone wins?

Ryker never mentioned a girlfriend on the side or a woman that he planned to date after our divorce.

He was very specific.

That we were not allowed to see other people. This just doesn’t add up.

I hear the door open behind me and I can only imagine who it must be. The door closes and I hear Ryker’s footsteps behind me, labored, no doubt because of the scene playing out in front of him.

“Ryker, honey! You’re home,” she says, and it takes all the self-control I have, and desire not to go to jail for assault, not to slap her for calling Ryker ‘honey’.

The nickname grates on my nerves to hear her say it for the second time.

He’s not hers anymore… right?

“Amelia, what are you doing here?” he asks, walking up to us. “Did you let her in like this?” he asks me, standing beside me.

Now with Ryker in the penthouse, I hate that Amelia is still in lingerie and that her body is perfection.

It really adds insult to injury.

“I was just telling your wife here that we could have an arrangement.”

“How did you get in, Amelia?” he asks, his voice low and threatening, ignoring what she just said.

“Ryker, I made a mistake breaking up with you. But now that you’re married, in two years’ time, this won't even matter anymore. You'll get divorced and you’ll be a US citizen.”

“What made you think you could come up here and make yourself at home? I have a wife. I have a new life.”

“You asked me first, but you didn’t even ask with a ring,” she says, pointing a finger at me. “What’s so special about her that she got a broadcasted proposal and a ring bigger than what I asked you for?”

I’d maybe feel bad for her if she wasn’t such a spoiled brat… and didn’t come up here to seduce my husband.

“You didn’t have any problem dumping me and moving on the next day with the safety for the Seattle Sonics,” he says back, but from how it sounds like this breakup played out I’m surprised Ryker even wanted to get married at all.
