He just stares directly ahead and walks towards the small gym locker room.

It’s a quarter of the size of the locker room attached to the rink but it’s better than walking across the stadium to use the bathroom or shower on the other end of the massive building.

“Hey, Wrenley,” I say back.

“I’ll be out in a second,” he says, walking calmly to the back of the gym.

“Ok.”

There’s a moment of silence right before he gets to the door.

“Morning, Penelope.”

Penelope’s eyes clamp shut, and her nose wrinkles for a second.

We’ve been caught but damn she’s cute about it.

“Morning, Wrenley,” she says back, her eyes opening back on me and her cheeks warming red.

She’s blushing, and I swear to God I fell a little harder for her just now.

As if it’s possible to fall anymore.

He walks through the door, and right before it closes behind him, he says, “Conley just parked. You’ve got less than ten seconds.”

And then the door closes firmly behind him.

I scramble to my feet and then pull her off the ground with my arm that didn’t make an unsettling popping noise… though that kiss was well worth it.

I know that Wrenley won’t say a damn word, but Conley… I don’t know him well yet.

And though Penelope and I haven’t talked about it, I’m guessing she doesn’t want all the players on the roster, or Sam, to know we were making out on the mats of the Hawkeyes' gym.

If Sam’s going to find out about anything going on between us, I want to be the one to tell him. He needs to hear it straight from me.

First, I need to make sure that something is actually happening between us, because based on the message earlier with Win… I still have direct competition.

With myself.

Penelope

I speed walk out of the gym and towards the parking lot, distancing myself with the gym as quickly as I can before Briggs sees me.

Not that he would suspect something with both Seven and Slade in the gym now, but I’m not going to chance a run-in and find out.

With my gym bag in hand, I head for the employee parking lot. With Slade loose in the building, and that kiss still fresh on my lips, I don’t trust either one of us in a locker room shower. Best to be safe and shower at home.

With my father’s first appointment not until later today, I have plenty of time to go home, shower, and get myself right again.

Walking through the hallway of the stadium that leads to the main building to the gym, I see Briggs headed in my direction.

Be natural.

He doesn’t know a thing.

Don’t look guilty.

“Hi, Penelope. Good morning,” he says.
