Penelope: Chips and dip?

I’d ask her to get the alcohol, but after declining a drink at Oakley’s for my birthday almost two weeks ago and then not drinking one of the limited edition tangerine hard ciders that Tessa brought from our favorite brewery two nights ago… it has me wondering.

I didn’t want to call her out in front of the girls when everyone was here a couple of nights ago, but if she doesn’t drink anything tonight, I won't be able to hold my silence.

Isla: Perfect! See you soon.

Thirty minutes later, all of us girls are standing around the kitchen getting our food ready before the game starts.

Autumn reaches into her grocery bag to pull out the ingredients she brought for cheesecake dip to go with the fruit tray when I hear her gasp.

I look over to find Autumn pulling out a box of pregnancy tests.

“Oh my God, Autumn, are you…”

The other girls both look over immediately, but Autumn shakes her head. “These aren’t mine. I must have reached in the wrong bag.”

We all start darting and look at each other until Isla confesses.

“I brought them—they're mine. I didn’t want to take them at home alone while Kaenan’s out of town and with everything going on with the playoffs… I don’t want to stress him out.”

“Stress him out? Hasn’t he suggested having a baby before Berkeley is too old?” Autumn asks.

“Yes, he wants more kids, but I’m on birth control… this wasn’t planned. We were going to have a wedding first,” she says a little shy about the conversation.

“Come on,” Tessa beams over at Isla. “Let’s do this before the game. We have to know if the Hawkeyes are getting a new baby.”

Autumn and I squeal with excitement and I walk over to Isla, wrapping an arm around her shoulders, pulling her with me towards my master bathroom while Autumn looks in the bag and finds a second box of pregnancy tests.

“How many tests do we need?” Autumn teases.

“I was nervous and didn’t know how many I should test. I’ve never taken one before,” Isla says, the middle between her eyebrows scrunching up with nerves.

I’m glad she decided to do this with us so that we can support her.

We’re all excited as we head down the hall towards my bedroom.

Well, all of us except Isla, who seems still a little stiff in between my arm and shoulder.

Autumn and Tessa busily open up the boxes and get everything organized while I head back to my kitchen and grab a disposable red solo cup.

When I return, I hand Isla the cup.

“Here. Pee in this.”

None of us exit as Isla pulls down her pants and sits on the toilet, attempting to steady the cup in the toilet as she holds it in place to pee.

Of course, we don’t watch her… because we’re not total weirdos.

She finishes and places the cup on the counter.

Tessa adds all six of the pregnancy tests that Isla brought, and Autumn starts the timer on her cell phone.

“In three minutes, we’re going to know,” Autumn says, bouncing with glee.

We chat about Isla and Kaenan’s wedding plans, Berkeley as a big sister, and how Isla is going to tell Kaenan if the tests come back positive.

Is she going low-key, telling him over a nice quiet dinner? Or make a huge banner out in the yard for when he pulls up to the house tonight.
