“She doesn’t even know who Sarah Brown is.” Leo frowned.

“Yes, I do,” Piper said. It was a lie. She had never seen the show before and was hoping Leo wouldn’t call her bluff. Either way, it didn’t matter. There was no way in hell she was ever going to agree to this. “But, for once, Captain Hook and I are on the same page. I don’t think I could pull that off.”

“Sure you could!” Sam took a seat across from her and folded his hands on the table. “You practically are Sarah Brown.”

Piper trod carefully, still trying not to get caught in a lie. “We do have a lot of the same characteristics, sure, but I’m not an actor.”

“So you’re admitting to being a good girl who gets easily swindled?” Leo smirked.

Fuck. Before Piper could respond, Wes shoved Leo’s shoulder and sat down next to Sam, leaving Leo looking out of place as the only one standing. Leo wore it well, though. If Piper had to bet, he would continue to stand for the entire discussion just to drive home the point that he was uncomfortable nowhere.

“What Leo means to say is that you’re kindhearted and see the best in people,” Sam said.

“And you might have a bit of a wild streak underneath it all,” Wes tag-teamed.

“No, that’s not at all what I meant.” Leo laughed, but it wasn’t the kind of laugh that transformed his face into a smile. Instead, it was cold and unamused. Piper gave him her best death glare. She didn’t have a strong one, considering her brothers and Leo were the only people in the world who ever got on her nerves enough that the look was necessary, but there needed to be something that conveyed the sheer amount of hatred vibrating in her veins.

“Sorry about him,” Sam offered. “I think he had the hots for the last Sarah Brown.”

Leo rolled his eyes. “Now we’re making things up? Cool.”

“Shh, I’m trying to sell it.” Sam held a hand out and pushed Leo’s face away playfully. Leo looked like he wanted to rip Sam’s head off, but instead, he shoved his hands into his pockets with an even deeper scowl.

“Yeah, unfortunately, Leo liking the last girl is definitely not going to sell it for me, but I’m so happy that the last Sarah Brown managed to dodge that bullet.” Piper quirked up the side of her mouth and met Leo’s eyes. “And what’s your role in this play? To sleep with the leading ladies and stomp around proclaiming superiority?”

“If I say yes, you’ll just really want the role.” Leo shot her a cocky wink, and Piper feigned gagging.

“If you say yes, it’ll guarantee that I say no.”

“Perfect. Then yes.” Leo turned up his nose.

Piper cocked her head to the side and shrugged, folding her arms over her chest. “No.”

“He’s the assistant director!” Sam shouted. Piper swiveled her head to Sam at the same time Leo did.

“Ha!” Piper’s outburst had Sam, Wes, Talia, and Thea all staring at her with wide eyes. Leo just looked furious.

“Don’t think I can do it?” Leo challenged.

“No, I think you’d love bossing people around. I’m laughing because there is no way you could convince me to do this. Especially if you’re directing.”

Leo scoffed. “I’m not the one trying to convince you of anything. They are. I thought I made that very clear.”

“Oh, and here I was thinking you were trying to convince me that you’re an asshole. It worked, by the way. Ten out of ten performance. Take candy from a baby next, and I’ll be even more convinced.”

Leo grinned like the conniving little shit he was, and he bent forward, dipped his fingers into Piper’s glass of mostly ice, and pulled out the last remaining cherry, twirling it between two fingers. She fumed as he stared directly into her eyes and plopped the cherry onto his tongue. Leo chewed at an arrogantly slow pace before she watched his Adam’s apple dip on a swallow. “There. I took candy from a baby. Happy, princesita?”

“Not quite.” Piper stood up from her seat abruptly, no longer in control of her emotions as her hand whipped out to grab her glass. And then, with the heat of anger licking up her spine, she tipped it over Leo’s head. She’d never done something so impulsive before in her life, but the look of utter shock on Leo’s face was worth it. The look of horror on Talia’s, on the other hand, was not. Thea had slapped a hand over her mouth to cover a very loud gasp, and Sam and Wes both had their jaws hanging open, so it was sufficient to say that Piper’s response might have been overkill.

The entire bar was staring at them, and Piper could feel her face heat in mortification as Leo stood with hunks of ice on his shoulders and in his hair, glaring at her. She hadn’t really realized that they had been practically shouting at each other until the bar quieted, only the karaoke music still playing through the speakers. Even the current vocalist on stage had stopped their performance to watch the altercation.

The fury behind Leo’s dark eyes and the rigidity of his posture as he finally shook off the ice, his face dripping from whatever had melted in the bottom of Piper’s glass, said that their battle wasn’t even close to over.

Leo glared. “You are the most—”

“Hey!” Piper’s eyes widened as the tattooed bartender Leo had been hitting on earlier stomped her way over to them. “You two. Leave.”

“Me?” Leo argued. “Sasha, I didn’t do anything!”
