“I have to start writing down my thoughts and feelings and we’ll discuss them next week. I think, considering everything, it was productive.”

Clay sits down in Caleb’s office chair and swivels it like a child. “Baby steps. I know it doesn’t feel like it now, but in time, you won’t be full of dread and fear.”

“I just wish the police would find him. How hard can it be?”

“I think that’s why Caleb is so pissed, because he knows they’ve not been doing enough. However, Tracey is supposed to be the best at what she does. Anyway, just know that you’re safe here. Nothing will ever get you.”

“I feel safe here. I can see me giving birth in this compound.”

Clay laughs a full belly laugh. “Just make sure I’m not the only one around then, because I’ll be no use.”

I don’t know what it is with Clay, but he always lightens the mood. He makes me laugh and forget about the nitty gritty details. Between him and Caleb, I don’t know where I would be without them.

“What do you say we make our own fun?”

I look at him curiously. Clay is the troublemaker, always has been. His idea of fun might not be up to my standards, but I’m bored and need a distraction, so I say, “What do you have in mind?”

He crooks his finger at me as he stands up and leaves the office. I follow him with my coffee and see him pulling out a games console and controllers.

“Do you think you can still beat me, sweet cheeks?”

“I think you’ll have a slight advantage, because I can’t remember the last time I played any kind of video game. It was probably with you all those years ago.”

“I’ll give you a head start.”

And that’s what I did. I sat on the couch and let Clay set up Call of Duty. I haven’t ever played it. I’ve heard people talk about it, but back when I played games consoles, it was Mario, Sonic, and Zelda. There was nothing as graphic as this. I guess I’ll just have to enjoy learning all about it with the master of games.
