He took a step toward me, placing his fingers on my chin. “You did something amazing. You gave me the only thing I ever wanted.”

I sighed with relief. “I thought you were upset.”

His lips pressed into a thin line as he fought back a smile. “Quite the opposite.”

“Why are you quie—”

Suddenly, he was holding a robin egg blue ring box between us.

“James,” I gasped.

“I know we have a long journey ahead of us, dating, living together, and a baby on the way. But when we’re ready, I want us to go anywhere in the world you want and get married. You name it. Any country, city, ocean, the moon, wherever.”

He opened the box, and a little, bright light lit up a pear-shaped, sparkling diamond ring. It was the most beautiful thing I’d ever laid eyes on.

“Oh my God.” I covered my mouth.

“Madison,” he kneeled on one knee, a gentle snow danced around us, “will you marry me?”

I bobbed my head mindlessly, grinning so hard my cheeks were aching. “Absolutely, YES!”

He stood, pulling me into his body, picking me up, and kissing me passionately before standing me back on the path. Taking my left hand in his, he slid the gorgeous, enormous stone onto my left ring finger.

“I love you so much.” He moved to the side ever so slightly.

“I love you, too. So much.” My gaze caught movement in an upstairs window, my smile faded. Is that… oh God. My eyes broadened. I tried to redirect my attention, but it was too late.

“What’s wrong?” James’s brows knitted, and he got ready to turn around, but I pulled him to my lips again, kissing him with hunger to distract him in any way I could.

He broke our kiss, whirling around, his eyes trailing up the back of the house to the master bathroom shower. Vincenzo was standing behind Elizabeth, pounding her from behind as she clung onto the soaker tub in front of the window. His face contorted to about ten different expressions before he scowled.

“ELIZABETH!”
