“Now,” Ian offered me a subtle glance before lowering his gaze back to the men, “tell me why Vito had you come to my club.”

I stepped over to a nearby shelf, carefully selecting a baseball bat and gripping it tightly in my hands. My days of playing college baseball replaying in my mind.

“We weren’t going to do shit!” the other guy chimed in. “We were just here to see Gia and were planning to tell you the family’s st?—”

I swung the bat with all my might, the satisfying crack as it connected with his face drowning out any further words. He crumpled to the floor in a pool of blood, staining the pristine white floor. Stepping over his motionless body, I held the bat high above the second man, who was now squirming and begging for his life.

“Don’t worry about Luke,” Ian chuckled darkly. “Continue where your friend left off. It might save your life. But if either of us don’t like what you have to say, he’ll kill you all, one by one.”

“I-I-I wasn’t p-planning to hurt anyone. I?—”

BAM!

I brought the bat across his face, blood splattering us all, before turning to face the third man. His eyes widened in terror as he tried to back away from me, tears streaming down his cheeks as he shook his head.

“Please,” his voice was shaky and desperate through his saliva-filled mouth.

“Finish, before Luke loses his patience entirely,” Ian commanded as Nico and Ice Man took steps closer.

KNOCK. KNOCK. KNOCK.

Our gazes snapped toward the door. Nico strode over, opening it ever so slightly. Seconds later, he took a step back, letting Jacob through.

He stopped in his tracks, his eyes scanning the room and assessing the damage in silence before speaking. With a confident stance, he cleared his throat and addressed us. “We’ll take the others and ensure those two are gone.”

“They’re on my turf, Jake,” Ian protested, his muscles tense and ready for a fight. “You know the agreement.”

“And I understand that, but I have my reasons and need you to stand down this time. One of their friends is ratting them all out and we might have exactly what we need, but I need to take these guys with us.”

Ian took a deep breath, running his palm over his mouth before turning to me with a single nod. Scowling, I tossed the bat to the side of the room, causing it to clatter and bounce off the wall onto the floor.

“Pussy,” I muttered under my breath at the guy I was just about to take out as I marched to the door, scowling at Jacob on the way. Ian, Ice Man, and Nico followed as six of Jacob’s men rushed by into the room.

The moment the door was closed, I asked, “What now?”

Without breaking his stride as we marched toward his office, Ian replied, “We’re going to kill Gia’s father.”

JADE

The night had been crazy. Ian insisted everyone return to their own homes and not speak a word of anything to anyone until we had a chance to talk more. It was easy to tell a lot was weighing on his and Luke’s minds. After Dorothy left, he and I showered before he led me down to the basement. We’d moved the playroom over not too long ago, locking up the once unused room securely. The door closed, and I jumped at the sound.

“Jade,” Luke’s voice was serious as he spoke, causing me to lower myself to my knees without hesitation. “I’m in a really bad mood tonight.” His words were a warning.

I waited for permission before responding, keeping my gaze lowered to show respect.

“Stand,” he commanded.

Pushing myself up from the floor, I stood before him, still avoiding his piercing gaze.

“Look at me,” he ordered, and I lifted my head to meet his intense stare. “Speak.”

Our usual dynamic involved using violence as a means of fueling our desires, but tonight was different. Luke’s anger toward someone he considered a friend ran deep, and it showed through in his tone and demeanor. He may have been patient with those he cared about, but when his temper flared, it burned fiercely. And even though I knew he’d never hurt me, I never provoked him.

“I’m not scared you’ll hurt me,” I took a step forward, lacing my fingers together behind his neck.

He took my hands in his and brought them to his lips, pressing gentle kisses against each knuckle as he spoke in a husky voice, “I don’t want to hurt you. I want you in the way I had you the first night.”

I opened my mouth to reply, but he cut me off with an aggressive kiss before pulling something out of his pocket as he strode around behind me. Taking a deep breath, I anticipated what was coming. He placed a black satin piece of fabric over my eyes, securing it with a tight knot behind my head.
