And then he’d sent Griz out to do the deal, making it seem like it was a gesture of good faith, when Ripper had clearly worked out with Major Navarro ahead of time… if Griz didn’t do the deal, kill him and get him out of the way. All so that Ripper and Navarro could start working together.

There might’ve been more that Ripper had been a part of, but what Griz knew was enough. Ripper had to answer for what he’d done.

“Thanks, Benny,” Griz said. “I owe you, buddy.”

“Fucking Ripper, man,” Devil said. “I knew something was up with him.”

“You did not,” Griz said.

“Okay, no I didn’t, but still. Fuck that guy.”

“What do you guys do if something like this happens?” Pony asked. “A betrayal like this?”

“Nothing like this has ever happened before with our club,” Griz said. “Not that I can remember.”

“We could stick this C4 up his ass and see what happens,” Devil said. “That’s my vote. But first we got to find the fucker.”

Something itched at the back of Griz’s mind.First we got to find the fucker.

His dad. Ripper might have gone after his dad while he was here with Navarro.

“Benny?” he said into his phone. “Benny, are you still there?”

“Yes. Yes of course. Where else would I be? Makes no sense.”

“Benny, could you track that cell phone number I just gave to you? Track its location?”

“Of course I can,” Benny said.

Griz waited, and when nothing more was forthcoming, said, “Well?”

“Well, it’s not that simple. Just because I can, it doesn’t mean I should. Not completely secure. Might attract attention. Why do you want me to find this phone? What are you drawing me into?”

“I’m… I’m worried about Becca,” Griz said. It was the quickest, easiest explanation he could come up with.

“Is she in trouble? How? Who? Is it the government?”

“If I get a location on that phone, I might be able to find out,” he said.

“Ah. I see. Uncover what has been covered. Reveal the unrevealed.”

Griz had no idea what Benny was talking about, but he said, “Exactly.”

“Give me just a few minutes.”

Griz began to pace as he waited. Wyatt was at the hospital to guard Boomer, but with his wounded leg, Ripper might be able to get the upper hand, and then…

“I have it. I have it,” Benny said.

“What’s the address?”

Griz listened, and then hung up the phone. Without a word, he turned and ran full speed toward his bike.

“Where is he?” Devil said, following him as best he could. “Griz? What was the address?”

“Kate’s house,” Griz said. “Where Becca is.”

“Well, dang, dude, text her,” Devil said. “A text will get there faster than your bike.”
