“I got to get to that meeting,” he said.

“I see. You’ve had your dirty way with me, and now you’re kicking me out.”

“That’s exactly right,”” he said with a grin.

“I’ll try to get over it. Besides, I need to get moving myself.”

Now it was her turn to reluctantly pull on her clothes, feeling like the lights had just come on at the end of a particularly excellent party. She kissed him before she left, a full, unrestrained kiss. Poured into that kiss was all of the relief at everything he’d just told her.

He really was everything she had wanted him to be, the man that was perfect for her. Even better, now she felt confident that she’d wouldn’t end up in a position where she had to arrest him or anyone else at the MC.

On the ride home, those good feelings started to mix in with less pleasant ones. Yes, she was thrilled to discover that Pony and the MC weren’t involved in anything nefarious, and that her feelings for him were completely justified. At the same time, it also meant that she had found maybe the perfect man, all while spending months lying to him in order to find a reason to put him and his MC in jail.

She’s been doing entirely the wrong thing, all this time. And now that she knew it, there was only one thing to do.

She needed to pull the plug on this investigation. Get Harris to back off the MC and direct the investigation on Navarro in other direction.

And try to make this work with Pony. Somehow.

Boomer banged his heavy fist on the table of the MC clubhouse’s meeting room. All around the table, the MC brothers began to quiet down their chatter, coming to order.

“All right,” Boomer said, “we’ve got a lot to go over. A shootout, a bank robbery, some sort of high speed chase…”

“I want to play myself in the movie,” Devil said.

“I can only imagine you on a movie set,” Griz said. “Shit would burn down within a day.”

“What? No way. Unless you mean my insanely gorgeous man-beauty might melt the cameras down, now, that I could believe.”

“Devil, your fledgling movie career will have to wait,” Boomer said. “So from what Wyatt has told me, the three of you were getting ready to go up to that cabin yourselves when the cops got into their shootout?”

“Me and Jocko would have been there too,” Griz said, “but I had to stop and drag him away from his latest conquest.”

“What can I say?” Jocko said with a shrug and a grin. “I love the ladies. All of them. Besides, how was I supposed to know that things were going to pop off so suddenly?”

“You mean with the bank robbers, or the girl you were banging?” Griz said.

“Ha ha. Clearly you’ve never seen me at work. You can ask your old lady, though. She knows all about how I can fuck a woman into a coma.”

“You dream about touching my old lady, you’d better wake up and apologize,” Griz said, but the slight grin showed that he knew Jocko was only fucking around. “You may do that MMA shit…”

“Don’t worry, don’t worry,” Jocko said, his hands up. “I’ve seen what you can do with an axe handle. Besides, your old lady is as scary as you are. Even more so now that she’s pregnant.”

“Anyways,” Griz said, “Jocko’s dick made us late, so it was Wyatt, Pony and Devil that was there.”

“Pony’s the one who called it in,” Wyatt said. “Me and Devil came as back up.”

“This all started at the street bike races we sent you to go check out, Pony?” Boomer said.

“That’s right,” Pony said. “I headed out there the other night...”

“Took Piper with him,” Devil cut in. “To the race.”

“Finally,” Griz said.

“Yeah, really, man,” Wyatt added. “About time.”
